TANZANIA – Tanzania to host 12th East Africa Healthcare Federation Conference and Pharmatec East Africa exhibition which is set to take place from August 29th to 31st, 2024 in Dar es Salaam.

This annual event, organized by the East Africa Healthcare Federation (EAHF), brings together healthcare stakeholders from across the region and beyond to discuss the latest developments and advocate for the industry’s agenda.

The EAHF, formed in 2012, has grown from three founding members to a federation of seven country associations, including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.

The federation serves as a platform for sharing experiences, fostering dialogue, and driving positive change in the health sector across East Africa.

“Since the re-formation of the East African Community, the now seven member states have pushed the agenda on integration.

‘The way forward is to form an East African Federation with greater coordination of the various sectors, notably in education, custom unions, and trade through the East African Community (EAC), as well as established regional bodies,” the EAHF states.

The 2024 conference will focus on the theme “Enhancing Cross-Border Medical Referrals and Quality of Care in the East African Region.”

This theme reflects the growing trend of medical tourism within the region, as countries like Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda have become popular destinations for individuals seeking healthcare services from neighboring countries and even abroad.

The East Africa Healthcare Federation (EAHF) notes that medical tourism in East Africa is growing steadily, with Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda becoming popular destinations for individuals seeking healthcare services from neighboring countries and even abroad.

They add that these countries offer a range of medical treatments and procedures, including specialized surgeries, dental care, and wellness retreats, often at lower costs compared to Western countries.

The conference will provide a platform for healthcare stakeholders to showcase their offerings, share scientific papers on healthcare policies and regulations, and discuss regional healthcare experiences.

Networking and strengthening partnerships in the health sector will also be a key focus, with business-to-business meetings with healthcare investors scheduled.

The sub-themes for the conference include the potential for medical referrals within the East African region and Africa, advances in medical technologies, investments for resilient and quality healthcare, multisectoral approaches to medical emergencies, and the business environment for self-reliance in the health sector from the East African perspective.

The EAHF Conference aims to “promote the business of health in East African and the African Continent at large by bringing together the Healthcare stakeholders from the East African region and beyond to actively participate in knowledge sharing, propagate new advances in the healthcare industry and enhance partnerships.”

The anticipated outcome of the conference is a strengthened health agenda towards the achievement of the Universal Health Coverage Agenda, through a flourishing private health sector in the region.
