KENYA— ABSA Bank Kenya has forged a strategic partnership with AMREF Flying Doctors, a renowned aero-medical solutions provider, to offer exclusive benefits to its clientele in East Africa.
This collaboration aims to provide ABSA customers with access to Maisha Medical Evacuation plan membership, encompassing air and ground ambulance services during medical emergencies.
Under this agreement, ABSA customers in Eastern Africa will receive a 20% discount on Maisha membership for both air and ground evacuation services.
This special-rated plan is available to ABSA’s retail, SME, and corporate clients. Notably, ABSA customers will have the advantage of direct access to AMREF’s 24-hour customer care line, where qualified medical practitioners provide medical advice.
This eliminates the need for costly third-party intermediaries.
During the partnership unveiling, Yusuf Omari, Chief Finance Officer of ABSA Bank Kenya, highlighted the convenience and relief this collaboration would bring to customers.
He mentioned that ABSA customers can easily self-register for the Maisha Medical Evacuation plan via a secure online portal and make payments using their ABSA debit or credit card.
This seamless process ensures swift assistance during emergency situations.
Omari expressed the bank’s commitment to not only protect customers’ financial wealth but also prioritize their health and well-being.

The Maisha Medical Evacuation plan offers four packages, namely Maisha Bronze, Maisha Silver, Maisha Gold, and Maisha Platinum, with prices starting as low as US$18.
Premium-level members gain access to air medical evacuation and post-evacuation hospitalization coverage of up to US$200,000 in Nairobi or South Africa, including return flights.
This partnership covers several countries in East Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.
It comes at a critical time when the existing health system in Kenya faces challenges related to accessibility, particularly for those living in rural areas far from healthcare facilities.
AMREF Flying Doctors, based at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, has been providing aero-medical services since 1957.
Their Maisha medical evacuation service has assisted over 10,000 clients in Eastern Africa and has successfully conducted more than 1,000 air evacuations.
In 2020 alone, AMREF ground services evacuated 200 civilians to nearby healthcare facilities, while their medical call line handled an average of 500 calls per month.
