Abu Dhabi DOH, Roche Pharmaceuticals sign crucial MoU to enhance healthcare research

UAE – The Abu Dhabi (DoH), together with Roche Pharmaceuticals Middle East, made a stride during Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week (ADGHW) by signing a MoU to enhance healthcare research. 

This partnership aims to propel critical research utilizing real-world data to assess and address the burden of spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in Abu Dhabi.

The Memorandum of Understanding was formalized during a ceremony graced by Dr. Rashed Alsuwaidi, Executive Director of the Healthcare Workforce Planning Sector at DoH, and Michael Oberreiter, Head of Global Access at Roche Pharmaceuticals.

 Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Research and Innovation Centre at DoH, and Mohamed Elshaarawy, General Manager of Roche Pharmaceuticals, UAE, officiated the signing of the MoU.

Dr. Asma Ibrahim Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Research and Innovation Center at DoH, highlighted Abu Dhabi’s commitment to transforming healthcare through data-driven approaches. 

She emphasized Abu Dhabi’s role as a hub for healthcare data and its potential to drive innovation, prediction, prevention, and treatment in healthcare. 

Through international collaborations, Abu Dhabi aims to lead research endeavors supported by global partners, enhancing healthcare sustainability and access to quality care worldwide.

The collaboration between DoH and Roche Pharmaceuticals Middle East will focus on advancing real-world data collection frameworks in Abu Dhabi. 

This initiative will bolster DoH’s ability to monitor therapy outcomes effectively, empowering informed clinical and policy decisions to optimize patient outcomes. 

Additionally, the partnership aims to fortify the research network across Abu Dhabi and enhance participation in potential clinical trials.

Mohamed Elshaarawy, General Manager of Roche Pharmaceuticals in the UAE, emphasized the transformative potential of data-driven healthcare systems to revolutionize patient care and outcomes. 

He emphasized the importance of harnessing data to unlock valuable insights, identify trends, and make evidence-based decisions, ultimately leading to improved resource allocation and personalized treatment approaches. 

Mr. Elshaarawy expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence vested in Roche by DoH, acknowledging their shared vision of establishing an effective public-private partnership to enhance healthcare in the UAE.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, ADGHW served as a platform for significant government initiatives by DoH from May 13th to 15th, 2024.
