UAE – The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) unite to promote medical and health tourism in the Emirate.

This deal comes as the global medical tourism market is projected to grow from US$13.98 billion in 2021 to US$53.51 billion in 2028.

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is taking steps to position itself as a global hub for medical tourism and emerge as a leading health tourism destination in the Arab region.

Notably, Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector is well equipped with leading healthcare providers and renowned professionals, combining six of the world’s top healthcare institutions in the same place.

Abu Dhabi’s tourism and health departments will work closely to provide a comprehensive range of services across wellness tourism, medi-wellness, and medical tourism.

These entities will create a network of service providers to build a comprehensive system to attract and meet international patients’ requirements, utilizing existing local expertise and capacity in healthcare and infrastructure in Abu Dhabi.

Under the deal, DCT Abu Dhabi will offer its sophisticated tourism offering and a diverse range of experiences that visitors can discover at their own pace.

Speaking at the Arabian Travel Market 2023, Saleh Mohamed Saleh Al Geziry, the Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi asserted: “Abu Dhabi offers a compelling value proposition.”

Director General Al Geziry underscored that the latest partnership agreement marks the start of a new chapter for the continued growth of Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector.

The partnership aims to cater to the medical needs of patients from the international and domestic markets in line with the UAE’s wise leadership’s aspirations for the UAE.

The DoH and its partner hospitals will avail top-notch healthcare services across various fields, including oncology, cardiology, neurology, and orthopedics, at renowned facilities to medical tourists.

Moreover, these medical tourists will have access to tailor-made programmes and high-end medical services as soon as they arrive in the Emirate.

This strategic alliance follows the completion of Abu Dhabi’s health tourism strategy to provide the best possible services to patients visiting the Emirate.

DCT Abu Dhabi and DoH Abu Dhabi will leverage the Emirate’s advanced healthcare infrastructure and a reputation for pioneering healthcare advancements to attract medical tourists.

As the regulator of the healthcare sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the DoH invests in attracting and retaining talent and initiating valuable partnerships to set Abu Dhabi apart as a leader in healthcare innovation.

Backed by the DOH’s robust infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment, and skilled healthcare workforce, the collaboration will provide a space for innovative value-based care to flourish within the Emirate.

On his part, Hind Al Zaabi, Executive Director of Healthcare Facilities at DoH, outlined: “We seek to provide patients with the highest quality of care, for members of our community, and for those visiting from abroad.”

He pointed out that the recent inter-departmental collaboration will see the creation of specialised medical tourism programmes.

Al Zaabi further said that this partnership will pave the way for Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health to coordinate with all public and private partners across the entire healthcare ecosystem. 

He emphasized that the DoH and DCT Abu Dhabi will continue to invest in the delivery of the highest quality of healthcare in the Emirate and create unique experiences for patients in Abu Dhabi.
