UAE— The Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Center (ADSCC) and Yas Clinic have earned the prestigious American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks accreditation for Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell (HPC) Collection.
This recognition makes them the first institutions in the UAE and only the second in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to meet the rigorous global standards for quality and safety in collecting, processing, and storing HPCs.
These cells are essential for transplantation procedures and play a critical role in treating blood disorders and autoimmune diseases.
This accomplishment adds to their existing credentials, including recognition as a Centre of Excellence in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation by the Department of Health Abu Dhabi and accreditation from the Foundation for Accreditation for Cellular Therapy (FACT).
Securing three major accreditations within just 24 months highlights their dedication to advancing cellular therapy and regenerative medicine.
Their programs, such as the Abu Dhabi Bone Marrow Transplant initiative, CAR-T therapy, and Mesenchymal Stem Cell treatments, are at the forefront of medical innovation.
Prof. Yendry Ventura, CEO of ADSCC and Adjunct Professor at UAE University, emphasized that this achievement aligns with the UAE’s national healthcare vision.
He highlighted their commitment to setting new benchmarks in cellular therapy through cutting-edge infrastructure, advanced apheresis technology, and exceptional clinical expertise.
According to him, this accreditation not only reinforces their focus on patient safety but also strengthens the UAE’s position as a leader in regenerative medicine.
Dr. Maysoon Al Karam, Chief Medical Officer at Yas Clinic, praised their multidisciplinary team of scientists, hematologists, immunologists, nurses, and technicians for making this milestone possible.
She noted that being one of only two AABB-accredited facilities in the MENA region enhances their ability to provide advanced treatments to patients while supporting physicians in offering innovative care.
The AABB accreditation program is globally recognized for promoting excellence in transfusion medicine and biotherapies.
It ensures that accredited facilities uphold the highest standards for patient care, donor safety, and product quality.
This certification further solidifies ADSCC and Yas Clinic’s leadership role in regional cellular therapy.
