QATAR—Aman Hospital in Qatar has become the first private hospital in the country to successfully perform a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a minimally invasive and life-saving procedure for patients suffering from severe aortic stenosis.
This achievement highlights the hospital’s leadership in advanced cardiovascular care and its dedication to providing innovative, world-class healthcare services to the community.
The TAVI procedure was carried out by Aman Hospital’s expert cardiovascular team, led by Dr. Mohammed Al Hijji, an interventional cardiologist trained at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar.
Unlike traditional open-heart surgery, TAVI offers a safer alternative for high-risk patients by implanting a new valve via a catheter, which results in faster recovery times and better outcomes.
Dr. Hussain Ismaeel, Head of Cardiology at Aman Hospital, emphasized that this milestone reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to offering the best available treatments to patients.
He also noted that this procedure builds on previous pioneering interventions performed at Aman, such as transcatheter mitral valve repair and atrial septal defect closure, marking a significant advancement in private-sector cardiac care in Qatar.
Dr. Al Hijji expressed pride in this accomplishment, stating that it showcases the team’s expertise and the hospital’s cutting-edge infrastructure, which together enable the delivery of exceptional care to patients with complex heart conditions.
Aman Hospital’s success with TAVI follows a major regional milestone achieved by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which recently completed its 500th TAVI procedure, underscoring the growing adoption of this innovative treatment in the Gulf region.
Aman Hospital is known for combining state-of-the-art technology with highly skilled specialists and a patient-centered approach.
It operates five Centers of Excellence, including the Cardiometabolic Center of Excellence, and offers over 20 medical specialties.
The hospital is also the first private healthcare institution in Qatar to receive Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation and is affiliated with Imperial College Healthcare in the UK, reflecting its commitment to quality and safety.
The success of the TAVI procedure at Aman Hospital not only sets a new benchmark in Qatar’s healthcare landscape but also aligns with international standards for cardiac care.
Studies from Qatar’s national TAVI registry show high device success rates and favorable patient outcomes, with a 1-year survival rate of around 91%, demonstrating the procedure’s safety and effectiveness in the region.
