USA —3M Health Information Systems has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to leverage the potential of machine learning and generative AI technology.

The collaboration aims to advance automated medical notetaking and virtual assistant solutions for doctors by scaling up 3M’s AI-enabled ambient clinical documentation solutions and speech recognition technology.

AWS’s proprietary technology, including Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Comprehend Medical, and Amazon Transcribe Medical, will enable 3M to streamline clinical documentation processes and reduce the paperwork burden on physicians.

As a result, physicians can focus more on patient care while automating routine tasks such as medical documentation, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and productivity of healthcare services.

This collaboration marks a significant move for 3M Health Information Systems, which seeks to augment physician workflows with AI technology to improve healthcare delivery.

By utilizing machine learning and generative AI, 3M aims to provide innovative AI-driven tools that can revolutionize clinical documentation and enhance the quality of care delivered to patients.

3M Health Information Systems provides cloud-based solutions, such as 3M MModal Fluency Direct and 3M MModal Fluency Align, which offer real-time speech recognition and ambient clinical documentation, respectively.

With the help of AWS’s machine learning services, 3M will build out machine learning-based clinical documentation and virtual assistant solutions that are integrated directly into physician workflows.

The collaboration between 3M Health Information Systems and AWS will facilitate the development of ambient clinical documentation solutions that unobtrusively support the complex task of documenting patient interaction.

By pairing 3M’s cloud-based clinical intelligence with AWS’s ML services, the companies hope to provide clinicians with accurate, complete, and structured notes in EHRs, making it easier to scale the use of these solutions across the healthcare industry.

This partnership is the second major announcement made by AWS at the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society Global Conference this week.

In addition to collaborating with 3M, AWS has also partnered with Philips to move the imaging technology company’s storage and sharing platform for imaging scans to the cloud and enhance it with new AI-powered capabilities.

These latest partnerships further solidify Amazon’s position in the healthcare industry, where it has been making strides in recent years.
