INDIA – Apollo Hospitals Group has raised the bar for health care delivery in Navi Mumbai with the launch of its Genomics Institutes for the sequencing and analysis of the human genome.
Apollo Hospitals – Navi Mumbai announced in a press release that the new institute for genome sciences will provide comprehensive care to patients and families with genetic disorders.
“The Apollo Genomics Institutes will help individuals, couples and families understand the medical, psychological, familial, and reproductive implications of genetic disorders,” the India-based hospital said.
The state-of-the-art center will benefit large population groups with genetic disorders, abnormal genetic tests, children with developmental delays, congenital anomalies, and family members with genetic indispositions.
The Apollo Genomics Institutes will translate advancements in genetic medicine into real benefits for patients with dedicated and experienced genetic consultants and certified genetic counsellors.
In addition, the advanced facility will offer genetic counselling and increase awareness about genetic disorders to impact the well-being of women and children positively.
“It would showcase the multi-disciplinary approach in genomic medicine with clinics in neurogenetics, cardiac genetics, onco genetics, genetic women’s health, endocrine, and hematological disorders,” Apollo Hospitals stated.
Furthermore, the latest venture at the Apollo Hospitals will provide genomic services to Navi Mumbai and beyond while serving as a reference center for western India.
“The Apollo Genomics Institutes would ensure early assessment and identification of genetic conditions with relevant interventions, long-term treatment, and care,” the India -based hospital informed.
Moreover, Apollo Hospitals Group disclosed that it is working on cost-reduction strategies for genetic testing to reduce burdens and improve health equity.
Dr. Snehal Malalkmir, Consultant – Clinical Genetics, and Pediatrician at Apollo Hospitals, said that the hospital is engaging with not-for-profit organizations and exploring crowd-funding options with an aim to provide assistance to its patients at a time when they are most in need.
Apollo Hospitals outlined that genomic medicine is a new medical discipline that deals with genetic disorders and helps in the diagnosis and treatment of rare and inherited diseases.
According to the multi-specialty hospital, the emerging medical discipline holds a pivotal role in providing information on genetic predisposition and individual response to a particular treatment.
Genomic medicine is being used in cancer pharmacogenomics and for tracking outbreaks of infectious diseases besides its application in the diagnosis of rare diseases.
