INDIA— Madhu Sasidhar, formerly Chief Strategy Officer at Apollo Hospitals and Enterprises Ltd. (AHEL), has been appointed President and CEO of its hospital subsidiary, Apollo Hospitals, one of the world’s leading vertically integrated healthcare providers, beginning April 1.
Dr Madhu’s appointment is part of a planned transition that has been in place since he joined Apollo as Chief Strategy Officer in October 2023.
As part of this transition, Dr. K Hari Prasad, the outgoing President of Apollo Hospitals, will retire from his position after a remarkable 27-year career at Apollo where he has worked diligently.
In this role, Dr. Madhu will lead Apollo’s hospital business, with a focus on continuing to provide the world’s finest clinical outcomes while also improving Apollo’s signature patient care and experience.
Dr. Madhu previously worked at Cleveland Clinic in a variety of roles, including President of Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital.
Dr. Madhu is a practicing physician who has received US board certifications in internal medicine, lung medicine, and critical care.
He is a published author, having written multiple book chapters, journal articles, and peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Madhu is also a self-taught programmer with skills in large data systems, and he holds a patent through Cleveland Clinic Innovations for a technology he designed.
He completed his medical education at JIPMER, Pondicherry, and pursued further studies in Internal Medicine at St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.
He also completed fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Yale University, New Haven, USA, and earned his Global Executive Masters in Business Administration from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.
While welcoming him, Dr. Prathap Chandra Reddy, Founder Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, praised him noting that he brings global experience along with a unique combination of administrative excellence, deep clinical understanding and technology expertise which will assure patients of the delivery of the world’s best care.
He went on to remark that Dr Madhu Sasidhar will be key in Apollo’s next phase of rapid expansion, and he looked forward to working with him to offer more cutting-edge therapies to more patients in India and around the world.
Dr. Madhu, on his part, stated that he is honoured to join a great institution like Apollo, which has established the playbook for the whole healthcare industry in the country.
