INDIA – Aster Medcity has formally introduced its new specialised department christened ‘Aster Advanced Heart Valve Centre’ under Aster Cardiac Sciences at its 40-acre campus in India.

The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman & Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare, which manages Aster Medcity.

The newly launched facility will be operational on the premises of Aster Medcity on the southwest coast of the Indian peninsula.

This development comes barely two years after Aster Medcity launched the Aster Heart Rhythm Centre to cater to treatments for all disorders related to heart rhythms.

Located in Kochi city, the new Aster Advanced Heart Valve Centre will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of valvular heart disease, which is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in India.

Rheumatic heart disease remains the predominant contributor to valvular heart disease usually affecting the older population in the country.

Valvular heart disease, also known as heart valve disease or valvular disease, affects the heart’s valves which are responsible for controlling the flow of blood in and out of the heart.

This serious condition requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to control the mild to moderate symptoms and prevent severe damage to the valves.

The new state-of-the-art center at Aster Medcity will offer a comprehensive range of services for the treatment of valvular heart disease.

This space will use advanced imaging facilities to deliver top-notch healthcare services, including the Vivid E95 echocardiographic machine with 3D transesophageal echo and intracardiac echo (ICE).

Moreover, Aster Advanced Heart Valve Centre will be dedicated to the evaluation and fine-tuning of procedures related to the diagnosis and treatment of valvular heart disease in India.

The facility houses a Heart Valve Clinic, Heart Failure Clinic, and non-cardiology support from Vascular and General Surgery, Neurology, Nephrology, Infection Control, Stroke and Elderly care, and Psychiatric care.

This specialized department has well-trained medical experts to administer medication, as well as conduct minimally invasive procedures, and surgical procedures to repair or replace damaged valves.

Additionally, Aster Advanced Heart Valve Centre has a multidisciplinary Heart Team that specialises in valve disease diagnosis and management.

The heart team members will convene on a regular basis to discuss all facets of scientific treatment for complex valvular heart disease cases.

These complex interventions will be performed in a Hybrid Cath Lab based at the Aster Advanced Heart Valve Centre, which will double as a surgical theatre if need be.

Furthermore, the opening of the Aster Advanced Heart Valve Centre builds on Aster Medcity’s efforts to attract medical value travellers to Aster Medcity Hospital and its affiliate hospitals.
