INDIA – Aster Medcity, the flagship hospital of Aster DM Healthcare, has joined forces with Apothecary Medical Services to introduce the first-ever assisted reality (AR) ambulance in India.

The introduction of the smart ambulance aligns with the multispeciality hospital’s vision and commitment to introducing ground-breaking technology for healthcare purposes.

Aster Medcity, Kochi unveiled the latest 5G-network-enabled smart ambulance with the help of Apothecary, an independent firm providing entire critical care solutions to reach out to patients in pre-hospital setups.

In a press release, Aster Medcity informed: “The Assisted Reality Ambulance is a virtual emergency room on wheels that is equipped with high-tech on-live point-of-care (POC) devices to ensure instant screening and diagnosis of patients.”

Medcity’s ambulance staff can use high-tech on-live point-of-care devices to transfer live patient parameters to the control room such as an electrocardiogram (ECG), arterial blood gas (ABG), and ultrasound scan (USG) to name a few.

The ambulance has been designed with special features such as a crash cart door that can be accessed from the outside for treating casualties in disaster fields, and connected assisted reality smart glasses for live specialist support,” the hospital stated.

The smart ambulance crews can also utilize Wi-Fi-connected biomedical devices that transmit live dynamic health data to specialists in the control room.

Medcity confirmed that with the support of highly-trained specialists, patients will be monitored and treated throughout the transit via technology.

The 5G-enabled ambulance has been designed to load ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), which is a life support machine that takes over the function of the heart and lungs altogether.

The 5G-enabled ambulance has been equipped with an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), a type of therapeutic device helping the heart to pump more blood, to ensure prompt transfer of critically ill patients,” claimed Medcity.

The launch event was officiated by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament for Thiruvananthapuram Constituency and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology.

Commenting on the introduction of the first-ever assisted reality ambulance in India, Dr. Shashi Tharoor: “This is truly a remarkable step forward in healthcare and emergency services. It is clear that Aster Medcity’s leadership and dedication have played a significant role in making this a reality.”

Moreover, Aster’s healthcare innovation will ensure early specialist intervention, better support for junior doctors, and better decision-making for treatment, and ultimately improve health outcomes.

This news comes as Emmanuel David Gootam has officially joined Aster DM Healthcare as a Board Member.
