USA — Baxter International Inc. has launched the Hillrom Progressa+ bed, specifically designed for the intensive care unit (ICU) in the United States.
This advanced bed incorporates innovative technology and features aimed at improving patient care and supporting the recovery process, while also assisting nurses in delivering optimal care.
The Progressa+ bed integrates new features that aim to simplify patient care for nurses and promote patient recovery.
It includes specialized technologies to address pulmonary needs, protect the skin, and support early mobility protocols.
With in-bed percussion, vibration, and continual lateral rotation therapies, the bed aims to reduce pulmonary complications associated with immobility.
Additionally, the enhanced bed frame allows easier access to the head of the bed, facilitating procedures such as intubation.
The ICU bed incorporates improved support surfaces to optimize skin protection and wound healing. The bed’s new top cover simplifies the cleaning process, ensuring optimal hygiene standards.
Furthermore, the integrated lift system combined with the one-button FullChair and sit-to-stand Chair Egress feature assists care teams in adhering to patient mobility protocols while minimizing the risk of injuries for clinicians. This facilitates safe and effortless patient movement.
Baxter has made the Progressa+ bed available in the U.S., and plans are underway to introduce this advanced ICU bed to additional global markets within the next 18 months.
This strategic expansion is expected to strengthen Baxter’s position in the global critical care sector.
Addressing critical care challenges
As the critical care environment becomes more demanding and complex, the need for innovative solutions that facilitate patient recovery becomes paramount.
The Progressa+ bed addresses these challenges by offering technologies tailored to support pulmonary needs, protect the skin, and enable early mobility protocols.
Designed in collaboration with ICU care teams, the bed aims to alleviate strain on nursing resources, reduce the risk of pressure injuries, and simplify patient positioning.
According to a report by Allied Market Research, the global ICU beds market was valued at US$1.5 billion in 2020 and is projected to reach US$2.4 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.9%.
Technological advancements in ICU beds, a growing elderly population, and an increase in surgical procedures are driving market growth.
In recent developments, Baxter divested its BioPharma Solutions business to Advent International and Warburg Pincus, global private equity and growth investors, respectively.
The launch of the Hillrom Progressa+ bed further strengthens Baxter’s global presence, following positive sales performance across its portfolio in the first quarter of 2023.
Baxter has seen demand recovery, stable macroeconomic conditions, and improved supply chain management, contributing to growth in Advanced Surgery, Front Line Care, Pharmaceuticals, and Renal Care divisions.
