Burjeel Holdings chooses Oracle Health for its Electronic Medical Record ecosystem

UAE – Burjeel Holdings has entered into a strategic agreement with Oracle Health to implement the latter’s state-of-the-art Electronic Medical Record (EMR) ecosystem.

Under the terms of the new contract, Burjeel Holdings will adopt Oracle Health’s EMR solution in an effort to improve clinical outcomes as well as boost operational and financial efficiencies.

Burjeel’s updated EMR system and integrated solution will be implemented across the Group through a structured three-year rollout program.

In the pilot phase, Oracle Health will execute an EMR system across its three facilities namely Burjeel Medical City, Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, and Burjeel Day Care Surgery Center.

Oracle Health has been chosen to implement the omnichannel and EMR platform, which will facilitate the integration of Burjeel’s clinical ecosystem across its network of healthcare assets.

In a press statement, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, said: “By collaborating with Oracle Health, we are bringing this new technology to our operations will offer caregivers a simplified yet comprehensive view of patient data.”

As part of the new agreement, Burjeel’s Board of Directors approved the award of an AED 125 million (US$34.03 million) service contract to Oracle Health.

The green light from Burjeel’s Board of Directors is a clear reflection of its commitment to providing efficient, accessible, and affordable healthcare across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The Group will possess the capability to provide support for future care delivery approaches that require real-time care coordination and information exchange among multiple providers, patients, and locations.

Commenting on Burjeel’s latest collaboration, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil stated: “The patient experience across our healthcare ecosystem will be streamlined, with less waiting time and more patient face-time with clinicians.”

The implementation of Oracle Health’s EMR solution is expected to create opportunities for clinical, commercial, and operational efficiencies within Burjeel’s expanding healthcare network.

Oracle offers integrated suites of applications plus secure, autonomous infrastructure in the Oracle Cloud. In 2020, Oracle was the third-largest software company in the world by revenue and market capitalization.

It is worth mentioning that Mubadala Health has selected Oracle as its electronic health record (EHR) partner.

Mubadala Health will utilize Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) via the Oracle Cloud Dubai Region to run its Oracle Cerner electronic health records system.

By running Oracle Health’s EHR on OCI, the network will also have the scalability to accommodate additional locations including Mubadala Health Dubai and Imperial College London Diabetes Centre.

Burjeel Holdings will soon emerge as one of the first regional healthcare providers to adopt and implement a new Oracle Health EMR solution running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in the Oracle Cloud Dubai Region.

On his part, Akram Sami Dhaini, Vice President and Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa at Oracle Health, said: “Together, we can help Burjeel scale technology to meet its future needs, enhance operational and financial efficiency, and elevate the patient experience and engagement.”

Burjeel Holdings owns a network of 64 assets, including 16 hospitals and 26 medical centers, as well as pharmacies and other allied services, across the Middle East and North Africa.

With OCI’s performance, scalability, and built-in security, the Group inches another step closer to helping improve patient safety by ensuring the right information is available for its patients at the right time.

These benefits will provide Burjeel Holdings with significant opportunities to integrate its growing portfolio across the MENA region as it pursues its preferred capex-lite approach to network expansion.

The healthcare provider is well-positioned to continue delivering on its value-creation strategy of driving operational excellence through technology while enhancing clinical outcomes and patient experience.

We are working globally to help hospitals and health systems adopt technology that is digitized, open, and connected to help them solve some of their most complex challenges. With the collaboration with Burjeel, we continue our strong momentum in the region,” stated Akram Sami.
