UAE—Burjeel Medical City (BMC), Burjeel Holdings’ flagship facility, has introduced a cutting-edge Balance Lab within its Burjeel ENT Head & Neck Institute.
This new addition is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of balance and vertigo disorders, reinforcing BMC’s expertise in ear, nose, throat (ENT), and head and neck surgery.
The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, alongside John Sunil, Group CEO, and Dr. Mujtaba Ali Khan, CEO of BMC. Senior officials also attended the launch.
The Balance Lab is designed to address a wide range of balance-related issues affecting people of all ages.
By employing a structured testing protocol, the lab can pinpoint the root causes of dizziness and imbalance, which may stem from inner ear problems, neurological conditions, strokes, muscle weakness, or peripheral neuropathy.
Equipped with state-of-the-art tools, including Vestibular Nystagmography (VNG), Video Head Impulse Tests (VHIT), and specialized chairs for persistent Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), the lab can accurately identify and quantify impairments in the balance system.
Additionally, Computerised Dynamic Posturography simulates various scenarios, such as visual and motion-based conditions, allowing for early detection of disorders that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The lab also focuses on rehabilitation, offering customized therapy programs to address long-term challenges and prevent falls.
These advanced tools enable precise diagnosis and targeted treatment, paving the way for effective recovery.
Speaking at the event, Sunil emphasized that the Balance Lab represents a major step in their commitment to delivering top-tier, patient-focused care.
He highlighted how advanced technologies and a multidisciplinary approach are enhancing diagnostic precision and raising the standard of care for individuals with balance and vertigo disorders.
Dr. Shaik Irfan Basha, Director of the Burjeel ENT Head & Neck Institute, described the Balance Lab as a unique facility integrating advanced diagnostic and rehabilitation equipment.
This combination ensures early detection of complex conditions and supports effective recovery through a collaborative approach.
In addition to the Balance Lab, the institute now features a hearing aid booth equipped with modern technologies.
Patients can access personalized hearing care, including fitting, calibration, and tinnitus management.
