EGYPT – Cairo-based Cleopatra Hospitals Group has joined forces with Burjeel Holdings and Response Plus Holding (RPM) to support children and their families affected by the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
As part of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Cleopatra Hospitals Group is working closely with the UAE-based healthcare entities to offer multi-disciplinary medical assistance to save crucial lives of affected communities from Gaza.
The signing ceremony was presided over by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings and Chairman of RPM, Dr. Ahmed Badreldin, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cleopatra Hospitals Group, Dr Rohil Raghavan, CEO of RPM, and other high-level officials.
In a joint release from Burjeel Holdings, RPM, and Cleopatra Hospitals Group, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings and Chairman of RPM, said: “Our collaboration with Cleopatra Hospitals Group is a testament to our shared commitment to serving communities in need.”
Under this agreement, Burjeel Holdings and Response Plus Holding, with support from Egypt’s Cleopatra Hospitals Group, are collaborating to offer emergency and complex medical support to severely injured children transferred from Gaza.
The two UAE-based healthcare entities are in advanced talks with relevant authorities and the medical response operations will commence upon obtaining the necessary approvals.
Commenting on the significance of timely collaboration to serve communities, Dr. Shamsheer stated: “Cleopatra Hospital’s strategic location, coupled with its medical expertise and our rich experience in managing similar projects, collectively ensures that the children will receive unparalleled care.”
This humanitarian aid agreement extends the collaboration and builds on the significant progress made since the initial cooperation between Burjeel Holdings and Response Plus Holding.
The UAE-based entities have successfully collaborated with various governments to execute life-saving evacuation and medical missions in Yemen, Turkey, and Syria. Moreover, the entities provide emergency support to victims of crises and calamities across the region.
Through the latest collaboration agreement, RPM is initiating efforts to establish a field hospital, with over 60 beds, at the Rafah Border Crossing, which is the sole crossing point between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.
The field hospital at the Rafah Border Crossing will offer on-site emergency care, damage control procedures, and definitive treatments for paediatric patients.
In addition, Burjeel Holdings and RPM will facilitate the transportation of the children requiring secondary and tertiary care to hospitals in Cairo and Abu Dhabi, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care.
As Egypt’s leading private healthcare provider, Cleopatra Hospital’s paediatric department has a wealth of experience in providing immediate and advanced care to children in Greater Cairo.
In his address, Dr. Ahmed Badreldin, the CEO of Cleopatra Hospitals Group, outlined: “This timely collaboration is a reflection of the shared commitment between Burjeel Holdings and Cleopatra Hospitals Group to uphold our social responsibilities and deliver leading pediatric care to children in need.”
Ahmed Badreldin highlighted that the humanitarian aid initiative is an exemplary demonstration of the power of partnership in tackling critical healthcare challenges.
With this collaboration, patients with advanced medical needs will be transported to Cairo’s Cleopatra Hospitals Group while those requiring comprehensive, high-end care for complex conditions will be admitted to Abu Dhabi’s Burjeel Medical City.
In particular, patients suffering from orthopaedic issues and those in need of paediatric and neonatal intensive care, surgical interventions, and plastic and reconstructive surgeries will be admitted to Burjeel Medical City.
Counselling services will also be provided to children and their families to support their mental health during this challenging time.
Notably, a specialised joint action committee comprising medical experts has been convened to spearhead and fast-track the medical response project.
In related news, one thousand Palestinian children from the Gaza Strip, along with their families, are receiving medical care at UAE hospitals thanks to a directive from UAE’s President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
