KENYA— Concordia, a global affairs forum that promotes partnering between governments, businesses, and nonprofits to address the world’s most pressing needs, has announced the appointment of Dr. Githinji Gitahi to its Leadership Council.

Concordia is a global convener of heads of state, government officials, C-suite executives, and leaders of nonprofits, think tanks, and foundations to find cross-sector solutions that address the biggest challenges of our time.

The Concordia Annual Summit is the largest and most inclusive nonpartisan forum alongside the UN General Assembly.

Concordia also hosts regional summits with a focus on the Americas, United States, Europe, and Africa.

The Concordia Leadership Council is a powerful roster of former heads of state, leaders of industry, and policy experts with practical experience at every level of government and business.

By offering strategic guidance, expanding the Concordia community, and advising programming, the Leadership Council contributes to all areas of the organization.

Dr. Githinji Gitahi is a vocal advocate for pro-poor Universal Health Coverage and leads the largest thought leadership convening on the African health agenda.

He has served in senior leadership for 20-year work experience spanning through Avenue Group, Madison Insurance, GlaxoSmithKline, Nation Media Group, Smile Train International, and Amref Health Africa.

Dr. Gitahi joined AMREF Health Africa (AMREF) in 2015 as CEO and has worked in various positions in the health, media, and private sectors.

Prior to joining Amref, he was the Vice President and Regional Director for Africa with Smile Train International, mobilizing training, funding, and resources for children in need.

From safe maternity rights to building accessible healthcare, and vaccine justice, Dr. Gitahi works tirelessly to promote health-related injustices in Africa and the wider global community.

His work empowers the young, whilst encouraging the transformation of established systems and perspectives

Dr. Gitahi acknowledged the appointment and said, “Today’s challenges are complex while tomorrow’s challenges are unpredictable, volatile, and ambiguous, and indeed the most monumental threat to humanity’s survival yet. No one person, industry, or sector will be in a position to respond on their own and Concordia’s unusual ability to convene leaders from multiple sectors to solve unusual problems will be even more powerful in these unusual times.

Dr. Gitahi is also renowned as a leader on the global and regional front with notable achievements, including previously co-chairing the global UHC2030 movement, and currently serving on the Commission on Africa’s COVID-19 Response.

He is also serving as a member of the Governing Board of Africa CDC and being appointed to the Board of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).

Dr. Gitahi has also been appointed as a member of the SUN Movement Lead Group, representing Kenya.
