BOTSWANA – US-based medical device manufacturer, CTL Amedica Corporation, has signed a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Health & Wellness, and Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital (SKMTH) to establish a spinal and orthopedic devices manufacturing plant in the country.
The manufacturing plant which will be based on the grounds of the teaching hospital in Gaborone, will specifically focus on spine and orthopedic medical devices.
The MoHW Permanent Secretary Ms. Grace Muzila signed the partnership deal on behalf of the Government with the CTL Amedica President and Founder Mr Daniel Chon signing the deal on behalf of his company.
The MoHW intends to use the new initiative to reduce the cost of spines and orthopedic devices in the country, but also that of other implants and biomedical equipment in general.
The establishment of this plant will also position Botswana as a spine and orthopedic center of excellence.
Moreover, the MoHW hopes it will also help boost the country’s health tourism sector.
“The Ministry of Health is therefore, pleased to announce this historic development, which will help many Batswana receive specialized and top-notch health services, hitherto, uncommon in most developing countries,” the MoHW announced on its official social media accounts.
