DoH, Penn Medicine extend pact on innovation, science and research in Abu Dhabi

UAE – The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has extended its existing agreement with the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn Medicine) to advance education, research, and innovation across the Emirate.

The DoH and Penn Medicine will work closely to support the development of the life sciences research ecosystem in line with the Department’s efforts to boost innovation in Abu Dhabi.

Both parties have agreed to enhance research capacity and develop new programs to accelerate innovation capacity and related infrastructure.

Under the cooperation agreement, DoH and Penn Medicine will establish a state-of-the-art regional precision medicine innovation hub in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The partnership focuses on expanding translational research capabilities, ultimately enabling discoveries to develop into fresh approaches to treating diseases.

DoH aims to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s position as a life sciences hub by enhancing innovation, healthcare services, and treatments available to patients in the Emirate.

In a press release, the DoH said: “As the Emirate’s healthcare sector evolves at a rapid pace, the Department continues to work in unison with strategic partners to propel better healthcare outcomes, reiterating Abu Dhabi’s position as an innovation hub.”

The partnership between the DoH and Penn Medicine will build on Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to make a global impact while boosting the role of the healthcare sector in its contribution to the larger economy.

In his address, HE Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of the DoH, said: “In line with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi’s vision to achieve the highest quality of care for its residents, the Department is pleased to work alongside the great minds at Penn Medicine.”

He underscored that the collaboration with Penn Medicine would drive cooperation across all sectors to provide a holistic ecosystem for various stakeholders to translate their creative ideas into real-life solutions.

We look forward to witnessing the fruitful results in which this extended partnership will yield within the fields of innovation, healthcare technology, and artificial intelligence (AI),” added Dr. Jamal Mohammed.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health recently entered into a research agreement with Kahn Sagol Maccabi (KSM) Research and Innovation Centre of Maccabi Healthcare Services focused on technological innovation in healthcare.

The partnership will support the integration of science, technology, and operational best practices to ensure the continued efficiency and sustainability of the healthcare sector in the Emirate,” said the DoH.

Under the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership, Abu Dhabi continues to host partnerships with leading international bodies in an effort to further cement the Emirate’s position as a hub for innovation and life sciences.
