INDIA – Dr. Ayesha Chaudhary has officially taken charge as the new Director of the Indian region at WomenLift Health, which envisions a world where diverse, accomplished leaders collectively transform health outcomes.
In a news release, WomenLift Health said: “Dr. Ayesha Chaudhary’s strategic vision aligns seamlessly with WomenLift Health’s commitment to promoting diversity and creating opportunities for women to thrive in the health sector.”
As the new Director of WomenLift Health’s operations in India, Dr. Ayesha Chaudhary is expected to build on the significant momentum achieved in the organization’s programs and strategic initiatives in the country.
With years of industry experience, she brings valuable insights to lead WomenLift Health’s mission to advance women leaders in health in India and globally.
In her address, Ayesha said: “At WomenLift Health, we intend to drive a mindset and behavior change, empower individuals, institutions, and societies to reimagine leadership through innovation, and use effective leadership to further impact global health outcomes.”
She observed that women’s leadership in India is a multi-layered problem, which requires unbundling leadership as a unique skill at a personal, professional, societal, and spiritual level.
Before her new stint, Ayesha served as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) with the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India and as a Director at the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog.
In addition to being a co-founder of a med-tech startup, she is an alumna of WomenLift Health’s inaugural 2022 India Leadership Journey cohort.
She boasts a wealth of experience, having worked with key stakeholders in India, including academic institutions, multilateral organizations, and national government agencies.
This executive appointment comes at a time when WomenLift Health is gearing up to expand its programs and partnerships in a move to reach more women leaders in global and public health by the end of the decade.
As expected, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai, and WomenLift Health Global Advisory Board Member, welcomed Ayesha to the WomenLift Health family as India Director.
“We believe that under Ayesha’s guidance, WomenLift Health will make significant strides in fostering a more inclusive and diverse health leadership in India,” stated Dr. Soumya Swaminathan.
In her capacity as Director, Ayesha will lead efforts to expand WomenLift Health’s mission of creating and nurturing women leaders in global and public health in India through the India Leadership Journey.
It is worth highlighting that WomenLift Health’s signature Leadership Journey focuses on equipping mid-career women with tools, and resources, along with peer, mentor, and coaching support, to successfully use their voice, expertise, and leadership for impact.
Ayesha will play an active role in the governance of the organization’s India business as it plans to launch its flagship program, the India Leadership Journey, beginning in 2024.
Her experience of working at the helm of public-private initiatives in India will enable WomenLift Health to build new partnerships with key stakeholders.
For her part, Amie Batson, President of WomenLift Health, said: “Ayesha brings a passion for women’s leadership coupled with broad experience as a health leader and innovator.”
In addition, Ayesha will lead the implementation of WomenLift Health’s recently announced partnership with the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
The focal point of this partnership is to train women leaders in science, technology, and innovation, through the Women Leadership in STEM (WLS) program.
It builds on WomenLift Health’s commitment to expanding the power and influence of talented women in global health and catalyzing systemic change to achieve gender equality in leadership.
