INDIA – Dr. Nandakumar Jairam has taken over as the new Chairman of India-born Medica Group of Hospitals following the exit of Founder and Former Chairman Dr. Alok Roy.
Medica Group of Hospitals is one of the major and fast-growing chains of hospitals in Eastern India. The group has built and managed several multispecialty and super specialty healthcare facilities across the Eastern region over the past few years.
In 2008, the medical care giant launched its operations with Medica North Bengal Clinic (MNBC) in Siliguri.
Medica Group of Hospitals runs its flagship Hospital – Medica Superspecialty Hospital (MSH) – in Kolkata and it has footprints in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, and Assam.
The Indian chain of hospitals is exploring investment opportunities in Calcutta and the major cities of Bengal as the group expands its medical capabilities in the country.
With over 35 years of extensive healthcare industry experience, Dr. Jairam will leverage his strengths, skills, and knowledge of India’s healthcare landscape to lead Medica’s strategic growth strategies.
He is an alumnus of Bangalore Medical College, National College, Basavanagudi, and Bishop Cottons School in Bangalore in India.
Commenting on the leadership changes, Mr. R Udayan Lahiry, Co-founder & Director of Medica Synergie Private Limited, welcomed Dr. Nandakumar Jairam as the group’s new Chairman.

Moreover, Udayan Lahiry underscored that Dr. Alok Roy’s contribution to the Indian Healthcare system has been incredible while wishing him the very best in his future endeavors.
Dr. Alok Roy is the brains behind numerous healthcare facilities across the Indian subcontinent.
These facilities include Fortis Hospital (Noida), BM Birla Heart Institute (Kolkata), Manipal Heart Foundation (Bangalore), Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (Kolkata), and Narayana Hrudayalaya (Bangalore).
“It is difficult to part ways with one of the stalwarts of the healthcare sector like Dr. Alok Roy,” underscored Lahiry.
Before his tenure at Medica Group of Hospitals, Dr. Jairam worked at Columbia Asia Hospitals in India in various capacities, including as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and Medical Director of the hospital chain.
The veteran doctor has been associated with Columbia Asia Hospitals for over twelve years, according to the Indian hospital group.
He served as the Chairman of the NABH under the auspices of QCI (Quality Council of India). NABH is a constituent board of QCI responsible for setting benchmarks for quality and certifying hospitals and other health facilities.
In 2016, Dr. Jairam was appointed as the Chairman of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Health Services Committee.
He currently serves as a Founder Member of NATHEALTH (Healthcare Federation of India) and as the President of the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO).
He is also a former member of the Health Insurance Forum of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
What’s more, Dr. Jairam is the founder trustee for Terry Fox Foundation in Bangalore until its existence and the Founder of Krishna Charitable Trust in Maharashtra.
