Dubai Autism Center launches specialised dental clinic

UAE— The Dubai Autism Center (DAC) has launched the UAE’s first autism-friendly dental clinic, a unique facility developed in collaboration with Curaden, the company behind the Curaprox brand.

Located within the DAC premises, the clinic is tailored to address the specific needs of individuals on the autism spectrum.

It offers specialized oral care services in an environment designed to accommodate patients’ sensory preferences, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free experience.

Announcing the initiative, Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General of the DAC, highlighted that the new clinic is part of the centre’s broader mission to provide high-quality services for all members of the community, particularly people of determination.

He noted that this milestone aligns with Dubai’s vision of becoming an inclusive city that welcomes everyone.

Al Emadi also expressed gratitude to Curaden for their commitment to enhancing the dental care experience for individuals with autism, emphasising the clinic’s innovative design, cutting-edge technology, and highly trained staff.

Joyce Chamoun, the DAC’s Business Development Manager, echoed these sentiments, calling the clinic a groundbreaking achievement in the UAE.

She explained that the facility is designed to alleviate anxiety for individuals with autism through its calming environment, which features dimmed lighting, soothing colours, and noise-cancelling headphones.

These thoughtful elements, combined with advanced dental equipment, aim to make each visit as comfortable as possible.

Chamoun further emphasized that the clinic’s team includes dentists and assistants who have undergone extensive training at the DAC to understand better and support the needs of individuals with autism.

The team employs a compassionate approach, combining patience, empathy, and simple communication techniques. Services range from routine check-ups and cleanings to cavity treatments, ensuring comprehensive care.

Paul Tamer, Managing Director of Curaden MEA, expressed pride in partnering with the DAC, describing the initiative as a vital step in making oral health care more accessible.

Rami Fares, Regional Marketing Manager at Curaden MEA, reinforced the brand’s mission of promoting health and happiness by creating supportive spaces like the Curaprox Dental Room.

Angela Couto, Regional Education Manager at Curaden MEA, added that the clinic plays a crucial role in teaching effective oral hygiene routines and helping individuals with autism develop lifelong healthy habits.

Established in 2001, the Dubai Autism Center provides specialized services, including educational, psychological, and therapeutic programs for children with autism.

It is a non-profit organisation funded through subsidies, donations, and charitable endowments, working tirelessly to support individuals with autism and their families.
