UAE – Dubai is gearing up to host the second edition of the International Confederation of Plastic Surgical Societies (ICOPLAST) for the first time in the Middle East.

ICOPLAST was formed during the XXI Ibero-Latin American Congress of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Punta del Este, Uruguay in March 2016.

This new confederation was formally launched by sixty-two founding societies representing over 25,000 aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgeons worldwide.

ICOPLAST 2023 will feature a range of interactive sessions taking place from 5th May to 7th May 2023 at the Dubai World Trade and Convention Centre in the United Arab Emirates.

This year’s congress will be organized by the Arab Association of Surgical & Medical Aesthetics (AASMA) and the Emirates Plastic Surgery Society (EPSS).

The congress aims to ensure the progression of reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery training and patient care in a conducive learning environment.

The annual event will convene more than 1,500 delegates from over 60 international societies, and thousands of visitors from more than 112 countries.

Over 150 exhibiting companies will showcase innovative technologies and advances in the field of aesthetic and plastic surgery at the International Confederation of Plastic Surgical Societies.

This congress follows the growing demand from start-ups and established national and international businesses in the space for professional networking platforms and opportunities to interact with the public.

It will bring together plastic surgeons, aesthetic & anti-ageing medicine physicians, residents & medical students, pharmacists, dermatologists, allied healthcare professionals, and representatives of industry leaders to share best practices in the advancement of the medical specialty.

ICOPLAST 2023, the world’s largest gathering of plastic surgery societies, will be an ideal opportunity for stakeholders to share their expertise, new knowledge, and innovation in the field.

Furthermore, the three-day event presents a unique opportunity for attendees to engage in plenary talks, panel discussions, and workshops on advances in plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.

Participants are expected to gain insights into the treatment of breast implant illness (BII), innovative technologies in non-surgical face and body rejuvenation, and minimally invasive techniques.

Other key topics include surgical approaches to facial aesthetics, updates in breast surgery, state-of-the-art techniques in body contouring, and advances in regenerative surgery and medicine.

Moreover, the upcoming event will converge world-class thought leaders to discuss and share their peer-reviewed research papers highlighting the latest discoveries in the field of plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine.

This congress comes as the global cosmetic surgery market is projected to grow from US$46.02 billion in 2021 to US$58.78 billion in 2028.

As per the latest Medical Tourism Index, the country’s medical travel industry is expected to reach US$53.5 billion by 2028, with Dubai having a majority share of the medical travel market.

The emirate received 674,000 medical tourists who spent Dh992 million (US$270 million) last year, an increase of Dh262 million (US$ 71.35 million) from 2021.

Indeed, Dubai will be hosting this year’s International Confederation of Plastic Surgical Societies as the UAE positions itself as a progressive, world-class medical hub.

The first-of-its-kind congress in the Middle East will play a critical role in attracting more international and regional patients in need of cosmetic procedures.

Additionally, the event will pave the way for the expansion of the local pool of trained industry professionals with international qualifications in cosmetic surgery.
