UAE – The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) is implementing the first of two phases of a unique legal awareness initiative to educate healthcare professionals on legal aspects of medical practice in the Emirate and across the United Arab Emirates.
It comes as the Dubai Health Authority is currently finalizing its Dubai Digital Health Strategy, which aims to deliver patient-centric and data-driven healthcare services, regulation, and integration through digital innovation.
The new legal awareness initiative for health professionals is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2023.
In line with its announcement, the Dubai Health Authority began this initiative at Fakeeh University Hospital, which is a multi-specialty hospital credited with being the first teaching hospital in Dubai.
The initial phase aims to enhance compliance with health laws, regulations, and legislation in Dubai to increase the Emirate’s competitive advantage and improve operational efficiency.
Health professionals are expected to gain expansive knowledge of the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern healthcare practice in Dubai and across the UAE.
Speaking on this new venture, Dr. Ahmad Sulaiman, Director of the Legal Affairs department at the DHA, said the initiative is being implemented through a series of field visits across healthcare facilities in the Emirate of Dubai.
“This initiative will be led by senior officials from the DHA’s Department of Legal Affairs and is taking place in coordination with the DHA’s Health Regulation Sector and private health facilities in the Emirate of Dubai,” disclosed Dr. Ahmad Sulaiman.
Led by the DHA, the team will carry out a series of visits across healthcare facilities to listen to the queries of health professionals while introducing them to the procedures that must be followed to avoid legal violations.
It will be an interactive platform for health professionals working across private health facilities to discuss medical cases and complaints as well as gain clarifications on legal policies and processes.
“By attending the legal training, healthcare professionals will be empowered to understand their legal obligations and continue providing safe and effective care to their patients with complete knowledge of healthcare policies and regulations in the Emirate,” noted Dr. Sulaiman.
This initiative aims to enhance health professionals’ legal compliance with law regulations and policies as well as medical standards prescribed across the United Arab Emirates.
In turn, advanced levels of medico-legal awareness amongst health professionals working across private health facilities in Dubai will boost the competitiveness of the Emirate’s health system.
Through the initiative, healthcare professionals will obtain evidence-based information on legal systems, policies, and procedures that regulate the health sector in Dubai.
Overall, the awareness campaign will help to advance the quality of health services and patients’ experiences.
As part of the first phase of this effort, the Dubai Health Authority will introduce a series of awareness roadshows throughout the emirate over the coming months.
This phase will focus on educating healthcare professionals on the latest developments in legislation in the health sector in Dubai, and the importance of complying with these legislations.
In his talks, Dr. Sulaiman underscored: “This initiative reflects the authority’s keenness to assist private health facilities in Dubai to provide an optimal healthy work environment.”
Dr. Ahmad Sulaiman underscored the authority is working closely with private health facilities in Dubai to provide an optimal healthy work environment following all applicable laws and regulations.
He pointed out that the awareness initiative comes as part of the authority’s efforts to ensure the preservation of the rights and privacy of patients as well as the rights of health professionals.
In similar news, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has started an Organ Donation awareness campaign targeting public and governmental organizations, hospitals as well as public spaces.
The awareness campaign aims to support HAYAT, the registry for the National Programme for Organ Donation and Transplantation, by providing information about organ donation and encouraging individuals to consider becoming donors.
