UAE -Dubai has adopted cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technology to identify Legionella pulmonary bacteria, a culprit behind various acute respiratory infections, in a significant stride towards strengthening public health initiatives.
This groundbreaking approach, pioneered by Dubai Central Laboratory under the aegis of Dubai Municipality, marks a pivotal advancement in the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department, emphasized the Municipality’s steadfast commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure across its laboratories.
“Our aim is to equip these facilities with state-of-the-art systems that elevate the overall efficiency of Dubai’s health and safety apparatus,” Hind remarked.
The newly implemented AI method exhibits unparalleled accuracy in pinpointing live colonies of Legionella bacteria.
Furthermore, it expedites the testing process, delivering results with remarkable precision within 48 hours—a stark contrast to the conventional 14-day timeline.
“This revolutionary method of detecting Legionella pulmonary bacteria is among the latest to be accredited globally by the European Water Testing Network,” highlighted Hind. “It also boasts a certificate of recognition from AOAC International.”
With over 100,000 tests conducted annually, Dubai’s microbiological analysis laboratories play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of various consumer goods available in the emirate’s markets.
These tests encompass a diverse array of products, including food items, environmental water, and consumer goods, adhering to globally recognized standards (ISO/IEC 17025:2017).
