Egyptian health minister orders an investigation into New Cairo Hospital

EGYPT – In a significant development, Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has taken swift action in response to medical violations within the New Cairo Hospital.

According to an official statement issued by the MoHP Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar launched an investigation into the New Cairo Hospital after he witnessed unsettling violations during his visit to the facility.

On top of this, the Egyptian health minister ordered changes to the security and cleaning companies that contract with the Cairo-based hospital.

The health minister has expressed his deep concern about the violations within the reception and emergency departments and the internal department within the New Cairo Hospital.

He directed the investigation to look at the occupancy rates, the outpatient clinic visits, and the shifts of doctors and medical teams at the New Cairo Hospital.

He found that many doctors and medical teams were absent or irregular. He also found that the outpatient clinic visits were low.

During his inspection visit, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar noticed that many medical devices used in the New Cairo Hospital were malfunctioning due to the lack of periodic maintenance and follow-up.

Khaled Abdel Ghaffar observed that the cleanliness level within the hospital environment was poor while the hospital security teams were missing.

Comparably, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar visited the Heliopolis Hospital where he reviewed the attendance schedules of the hospital’s medical and administrative team.

He lauded the smooth progress of work at the facility after reviewing the records of the patients who entered and left the Heliopolis Hospital.

He also praised the cleanliness of the hospital departments and the presence of security personnel at their workstations within the Heliopolis Hospital.

Health minister orders probe into the Fifth Settlement Medical Center

In another development, the Minister of Health and Population visited the Fifth Settlement Medical Center in the Cairo Governate.

The health minister inspected the clinics, the analysis laboratory, and the patient waiting area within the Fifth Settlement Medical Center.

He also reviewed the attendance records of the medical teams and the number of citizens who visited the Fifth Settlement Medical Center.

He observed that a notable disparity existed between the number of dentists, pharmacists, and physiotherapists available and the number of individuals requiring their services, whilst the standard of healthcare provision at the center was substandard.

Based on a report published by the Office of the MoHP Spokesperson, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has formed a special committee from the ministry’s oversight and follow-up sector.

The special committee has been tasked to visit all the facilities affiliated with the basic care sector under the Ministry of Health and Population.

The committee will write a detailed report on the number of medical teams, the number of patients, and the types of services provided. The report will be submitted to the health minister within 30 days,” the official spokesperson of the MoHP said in a press statement.
