Egypt’s General Healthcare Authority partners with Roche Diagnostics to advance healthcare

EGYPT – The General Healthcare Authority (EHA) has taken a major step toward advancing healthcare in Egypt by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Roche Diagnostics during the fifth Annual Forum held on November 26, 2024.

This collaboration focuses on implementing digital pathology and enhancing data governance, aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030 goals of comprehensive and advanced healthcare services.

The tripartite partnership, which includes Roche Diagnostics and Roche Pharma, highlights the importance of public-private cooperation in driving digital transformation within the healthcare sector.

The agreement was signed in the presence of key leaders, including Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the General Healthcare Authority; Dr. Amir El-Tilwany, Executive Director of EHA; Dr. Liliane Kanaan, General Manager of Roche Diagnostics for Egypt and North Africa; Engineer Moataz Nassef, Commercial Director at Roche Diagnostics; and Dr. Ziyad Elahwal, Roche Pharma Egypt’s Market Access and Policy Lead.

Under this agreement, Roche Diagnostics will provide cutting-edge equipment and digital pathology solutions to improve diagnosis and treatment processes.

This includes deploying the Ventana DP 600 slide scanner, capable of analyzing up to 240 slides simultaneously, which will transform the traditional workflow of tissue analysis into a fast and precise digital process.

This technology, first implemented at the Ismailia Medical Complex, aims to streamline tumor diagnosis, improve treatment accuracy, and enhance patient care.

In addition to supplying state-of-the-art tools, Roche Diagnostics will offer specialized training programs to healthcare professionals, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise.

These initiatives include field visits to international hospitals and manufacturing sites, as well as comprehensive staff training on advanced laboratory techniques.

This collaboration seeks to ensure high efficiency and accuracy in medical laboratories, setting a new benchmark for quality in Egypt’s healthcare system.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing its role in accelerating the adoption of modern technologies in healthcare.

He noted that working with global leaders like Roche underscores the EHA’s commitment to delivering top-tier services and fulfilling the strategic objectives of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

He highlighted that the digital pathology initiative and improved data governance will enhance decision-making and solidify Egypt’s position as a healthcare hub in the region.

Dr. Liliane Kanaan reinforced Roche’s dedication to healthcare innovation, particularly in Egypt, which has made significant progress in expanding access to medical services.

She stated that Roche’s collaboration with EHA will continue to integrate technological expertise to improve patient outcomes and make healthcare more efficient and accessible nationwide.

This partnership also supports Egypt’s telemedicine initiative launched in 2022, which aims to extend healthcare services to underserved regions.

This collaboration introduces advanced technologies and fosters knowledge exchange, setting the stage for a more integrated, innovative, and sustainable healthcare system that meets the evolving needs of patients and communities across Egypt.
