EGYPT—Egypt’s Healthcare Authority and AstraZeneca Egypt are set to deepen their collaboration on a series of healthcare initiatives to enhance the quality of care across the country.
These initiatives will focus on areas such as cancer and rare disease treatment, expanding healthcare access, and utilizing advanced technologies to improve patient outcomes.
The plans were discussed during a recent meeting between Egypt Healthcare Authority Chairperson Ahmed El-Sobky and AstraZeneca Egypt Country President Hatem Werdany.
One of the central objectives of this partnership is to broaden the reach of healthcare services to remote regions through the use of telemedicine and the establishment of a virtual hospital in Ismailia.
This innovative approach is expected to bring high-quality healthcare services to underserved populations and ensure that citizens in strategic and remote areas can access timely care.
In his address, El-Sobky emphasized the significance of this initiative, highlighting its potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery in remote areas.
He noted that by providing remote consultations and diagnoses, the partnership aims to bridge the gap in healthcare access, thereby improving the overall health and well-being of citizens in these regions.
Furthermore, the two organizations have expressed their commitment to establishing an innovation center that will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of healthcare services.
El-Sobky stressed AI’s transformative potential, particularly in the early detection of diseases such as cancer and rare conditions.
He stated, “The expansion of AI technology for early diagnosis of diseases, including cancer and rare diseases, is a priority.”
In addition to these initiatives, the partnership will also focus on training healthcare teams, establishing national drug and disease offices, and introducing cutting-edge services such as genetic drug testing.
These efforts aim to strengthen Egypt’s healthcare infrastructure and ensure that healthcare providers are equipped with the latest tools and knowledge to deliver the best possible care.
El-Sobky also expressed a strong interest in joining AstraZeneca’s “Cancer Care Africa” initiative, which seeks to improve cancer care across the continent.
The Healthcare Authority’s contribution to this initiative will include healthcare worker training, conducting health surveys, and launching awareness campaigns.
This collaboration is expected to play a pivotal role in the early detection of non-communicable diseases, particularly kidney failure, and in addressing the environmental impact of healthcare practices.
Werdany, on his part, emphasized the critical role of public-private partnerships in building a robust and sustainable healthcare system.
He praised the progress made by the Healthcare Authority and reaffirmed AstraZeneca’s commitment to ongoing collaboration.
Werdany noted that this partnership will enhance the efficiency of the healthcare system by expanding the use of AI technologies for early disease diagnosis, including cancer and rare diseases, and by supporting the generation and utilization of health data.
According to him, these efforts are in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to achieve health sustainability and improve healthcare outcomes for all Egyptians.
Both parties expressed their confidence in the potential of this collaboration to bring about significant improvements in the Egyptian healthcare landscape, ultimately benefiting patients and contributing to the country’s overall health goals.
