EGYPT – Emirates NBD – Egypt, a bank fully owned by Emirates NBD Group, has entered into a cooperation protocol with Ahl Masr Foundation for Development to facilitate the purchase of vital physiotherapy equipment for the Foundation’s upcoming hospital.

The recent signing ceremony was presided over by Amr ElShafei, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Emirates NBD – Egypt, and Heba Elsewedy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ahl Masr Foundation for Development.

It was signed in the presence of Dr. Amgad Doma, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer at Emirates NBD – Egypt, and Dr. Sherif Hamdy, Chief Business Development Officer at Ahl Masr Foundation.

This latest protocol covers procurement activities involved in obtaining medical equipment for Ahl Masr Hospital’s Physiotherapy and Physical Rehabilitation Unit.

It is part of Emirates NBD – Egypt’s strategic efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services in the country and raise the standard of the healthcare sector.

In an official note, Amr ElShafei, CEO and Managing Director of Emirates NBD – Egypt, said: “Emirates NBD – Egypt has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting the establishment of Ahl Masr Hospital.”

The agreement follows the ongoing construction of a first-of-its-kind regional hospital in Egypt dubbed the Ahl Masr Hospital.

After its establishment, the Ahl Masr Foundation began building the Ahl Masr Trauma and Burn Hospital in New Cairo, equipped with the latest medical technologies and employing the latest scientific procedures.

Ahl Masr Hospital is the largest hospital and research center in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa offering burn and associated trauma treatment to patients and their families.

In the pilot phase, Ahl Masr Hospital will provide the highest quality of care, treatment, and rehabilitation services to burn-injured patients and their families free of charge.

Speaking on the importance of this new hospital, ElShafei said: “Life-threatening burns often affect entire groups or families, and the initial treatment cost in intensive care is usually high, making it impossible for patients to wait until treatment costs are available. Therefore, all stakeholders should be involved in meeting the needs of the hospital and improving healthcare services to support deserving groups.”

With crucial funding from Emirates NBD – Egypt, the well-equipped Physiotherapy Unit at Ahl Masr Hospital will play a critical role in the treatment and recovery of individuals with deep burns after their recovery.

It is a clear reflection of the bank’s commitment to making a tangible contribution throughout the year to all initiatives aimed at helping the most disadvantaged segments of society to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030.

The specialized hospital will provide a comprehensive range of physiotherapy services and physical rehabilitation to include specialized care for people with physical disabilities resulting from burns.

Physiotherapy has been scientifically proven to contribute to alleviating burn pain, enhance overall health, and improve the appearance of burn scars.

The bank recognizes its crucial role in promoting social responsibility within the health sector, particularly for people with disabilities. For this purpose, we have provided financial support to purchase medical equipment for the Physiotherapy and Physical Rehabilitation Unit,” said ElShafei.

In line with the bank’s Corporate social responsibility goal, Emirates NBD – Egypt will provide fresh funds to ensure Ahl Masr Hospital’s Physiotherapy Unit is well equipped with the latest equipment.

The unit will be staffed by qualified Physiotherapists to provide diagnosis, physical examination, rehabilitation, and disease prevention for burn patients through physiotherapy services.

Physiotherapists will use a variety of medical equipment to support people at all stages of life to recover from life-threatening burns and ensure they regain optimal mobility toward recovery and reintegration into society.

Consequently, Ahl Masr Foundation for Development is working closely with various organizations including Emirates NBD – Egypt to support the completion of equipping Ahl Masr Hospital for free burn treatment.

Ahl Masr Foundation also entered into a cooperation agreement with Credit Agricole Egypt to support the establishment of the Central Sterilization Supply Department (CSSD) at the new hospital.

Comparably, Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate and Ahl Masr Foundation signed a cooperation protocol to support the establishment of a double room at Ahl Masr Trauma and Burn Hospital in New Cairo

On his part, Heba Elsewedy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ahl Masr Foundation for Development, stated: “Ahl Masr Hospital is the first of its kind in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa, offering hope to save hundreds of thousands of burn victims.”
