UAE—Emirates has partnered with Parsys Telemedicine to launch an innovative telemedicine station that will provide passengers with prompt, high-quality medical care during their flights.
This groundbreaking partnership signifies a major step forward in the aviation industry’s approach to healthcare, highlighting Emirates’ unwavering commitment to passenger safety and well-being.
Having invested over US$2.4 million to co-develop this state-of-the-art equipment with Parsys, Emirates plans to roll out the new system across 300 aircraft over the next few years.
This ensures that most Emirates flights will be equipped with advanced technology designed to enhance passengers’ inflight healthcare experience.
The telemedicine station comes with impressive features, including high-definition video conferencing, remote passenger assessments, secure data transmission, and a 12-Leads Telecardia ECG.
These capabilities empower Emirates’ well-trained cabin crew to handle emergency situations effectively, potentially saving lives.
The system incorporates essential medical tools like a pulse oximeter, thermometer, blood pressure monitor, glucometer, and electrocardiogram (ECG), facilitating speedy and accurate medical evaluations.
At the heart of this setup is the Parsys Telemedicine Kit for Emirates, which features the MedCapture© device. This Bluetooth-enabled tablet automatically shares vital sign data with the Ground Medical Support team.
This automated process eliminates the need for manual note-taking, boosting efficiency and decreasing the likelihood of errors.
The MedCapture© device is equipped with user-friendly software tailored to Emirates’ comprehensive medical procedures, allowing cabin crew to handle it effectively even in challenging situations.
Connected to the MedCapture© device is the Parsys Cloud, a cloud-based platform that enables real-time communication between the cabin crew and the Ground Medical Support team.
This platform ensures that customer information is managed securely while complying with data protection regulations.
The new system allows cabin crew to connect with ground-based doctors who can evaluate medical cases in real time.
Physicians can visually assess injuries or health concerns remotely, providing immediate expert advice, which ensures that passengers receive timely and well-informed medical assistance.
The Emirates and Parsys kits have already been deployed on several aircraft and have played a crucial role in successful medical interventions.
For instance, during a recent flight to Lyon, France, an elderly passenger suffered a cardiovascular emergency.
Emirates’ trained cabin crew quickly administered oxygen and utilized the Parsys MedCapture© device to relay her vital signs to the Ground Medical Support team.
With real-time communication and expert guidance, the crew managed the situation efficiently, ensuring the passenger received optimal care.
Emirates prioritizes medical training and support for its cabin crew, requiring new recruits to undergo an intensive eight-week program that covers medical response, security, service, safety, and emergency procedures.
This training combines practical, in-situ, classroom, and online instruction, equipping cabin crew with life-saving skills like CPR, the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and childbirth assistance, all enhanced by advanced simulation technology.
Moreover, Emirates strongly emphasizes psychological support for cabin crew, offering training focused on empathy, communication, and mental health assistance following incidents.
This all-encompassing approach ensures that cabin crew are well-prepared to address any medical situation that may arise during flights.
