KENYA – Equity Afia, the medical franchise of Equity Group Foundation, has expanded its presence in Kenya with 6 additional medical centers to boost access to quality, affordable and standardized healthcare services.
The launch of new medical units is in line with Equity Afia’s goal to ensure the sustained improvement of the health and well-being of Kenyans through utilization of healthcare.
The new medical facilities are situated in Ruai, Kariobangi, Lavington and Umoja in Nairobi County, Kerugoya in Kirinyaga County and Nanyuki in Laikipia County.
With the opening of the new facilities, Equity Afia currently has a network of 53 outpatient medical centers distributed across 19 counties in Kenya.
Kenya continues to make significant progress towards improving the health status of its people but the country still lacks a policy document or guidelines on Primary Health Care (PHC).
According to the Ministry of Health, not only does PHC tackle disease and caring for sick people but also focuses on promoting wellness, preventing disease and the underlying social determinants of ill-health.
PHC promotes people centered approach to healthcare thus encompasses promotive, preventative, curative and rehabilitative services through community collaboration and full participation.
The opening of Equity Afia medical centers that are multi-specialty centers offering outpatient medical care services across the country promotes quality health delivery.
The Equity Afia medical centers, which were first launched in 2015, have recorded 700,000 cumulative patient visits as at 2021.
Additionally, the facilities are also well resourced and equipped to offer comprehensive outpatient services such as consultation, emergency care, diagnostic services and pharmaceutical services as well as specialist services like physiotherapy, minor outpatient surgery, nutrition counselling among others.
During the unveiling event, Equity Group Chief Commercial Officer, Polycarp Igathe said that the Equity Afia network continued growth would play a vital role in enhancing the quality of healthcare services accorded to Kenyans in all parts of the country.
“Our medical facilities are comprehensive outpatient healthcare facilities that will offer primary, emergency and specialized care to those we serve.
