UAE—Etihad Cargo, Etihad Airways’ cargo and logistics arm, is commemorating a decade of its strategic partnership with Envirotainer, a leading global provider of secure cold chain solutions for pharmaceutical air transport.

Since its inception in 2013, this partnership has been instrumental in ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals worldwide.

By combining Etihad Cargo’s extensive global network and expertise with Envirotainer’s cutting-edge container solutions, the collaboration has consistently delivered excellence in pharmaceutical logistics.

In 2023, Etihad Cargo significantly expanded its utilization of Envirotainer’s active containers, marking a 134 percent increase in trips compared to the previous year.

This surge in activity coincided with a notable 37 percent rise in pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments, representing the highest volumes ever achieved by Etihad Cargo.

These milestones underscore Etihad Cargo’s ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure, product enhancements, and strategic partnerships, all of which contribute to the development of a robust global pharmaceutical supply chain.

Notably, Etihad Cargo’s dedication to maintaining quality across its cool chain operations has been recognized with the prestigious Qualified Envirotainer Providers (QEP) accreditation for its Abu Dhabi hub and 29 additional stations within its extensive network.

Beyond container provision, the collaboration between Etihad Cargo and Envirotainer emphasizes excellence in training and standards elevation.

Sixteen of Etihad Cargo’s Pharma Champions have undergone specialized training at the Envirotainer Academy, ensuring customers benefit from knowledgeable and skilled professionals in pharmaceutical logistics.

Moreover, this partnership epitomizes a shared commitment to innovation, particularly in leveraging technology to streamline processes and enhance transparency within the global pharmaceutical supply chain.

Currently, Etihad Cargo and Envirotainer are jointly developing a unified booking platform, promising to simplify the container booking process and provide customers with enhanced tracking capabilities.

During the commemorative ceremony, Thomas Schürmann, Head of Cargo Operations and Delivery at Etihad Cargo, emphasized the enduring commitment to creating a robust, resilient, and transparent global healthcare ecosystem through the decade-long partnership with Envirotainer.

He highlighted how this collaboration enables the seamless delivery of essential medicines worldwide, overcomes logistical challenges, and ensures transparency.

For his part, Akos Balkanyi, Global Key Account Manager, added that this significant milestone underscores the true collaboration between the two companies, aligning with their mission of enabling global access to biopharmaceuticals.
