German manufacturer Sanner launches US manufacturing operations in North Carolina

The Greensboro plant spans 60,500 square feet (5,600 square meters) and supports both contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services and packaging operations.

USA—Germany-based Sanner, a leading manufacturer of desiccant closures and effervescent tablet packaging, has officially launched its manufacturing operations in Greensboro, North Carolina.

This new facility marks a significant expansion of Sanner’s footprint in North America and is dedicated to producing critical injection-moulded components for medical devices, pharmaceutical packaging, and desiccant solutions designed to protect moisture-sensitive products.

The Greensboro plant spans 60,500 square feet (approximately 5,600 square meters) and supports both contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services and packaging operations.

It is equipped with GMP-compliant features including automated environmental monitoring, white rooms, and Class 7 and 8 cleanrooms.

The facility also houses full laboratory capabilities for testing and metrology.

Additionally, there is 20,000 square feet (about 1,800 square meters) of expandable production space to accommodate future growth and increasing customer demand.

Ted Mosler, President of Sanner US, expressed enthusiasm about the new site, highlighting that it is the Sanner Group’s first North American facility offering injection molding and pharmaceutical desiccant packaging.

Strategically located in North Carolina, the Greensboro site benefits from close support by Sanner’s design and development teams based in Durham and Pittsboro.

This integration enables the company to provide a full range of CDMO services, including injection molding, from a single source within the United States, enhancing production timelines, quality control, and flexibility for MedTech and pharmaceutical customers.

The facility features new automated high-speed desiccant filling lines, allowing Sanner to supply the North American pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets with locally made packaging solutions.

Among the first products manufactured are effervescent containers, the premium DASG-1 desiccant closure, and AdCap® desiccant canisters, with plans to expand the product range further.

This expansion follows Sanner’s recent acquisition of Gilero, a Durham-based CDMO specializing in medical device design, development, manufacturing, assembly, and packaging.

The Greensboro facility complements Gilero’s existing design centers and manufacturing sites across North America, reinforcing Sanner’s commitment to economic development and job creation in the region.

Christian Classen, Chief Sales Officer of the Sanner Group, noted that the Greensboro opening represents a key milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy.

It strengthens Sanner’s position as a trusted CDMO partner by combining extensive expertise, technological excellence, and a strong track record in drug delivery, diagnostics, and medtech devices.

Furthermore, the new facility enhances Sanner’s active primary healthcare packaging business by providing local production capabilities in the U.S., enabling faster delivery times and consistent high quality for North American customers.

Founded in 1894 in Bensheim, Germany, Sanner has evolved over more than 130 years into a global provider of plastic healthcare packaging and device-related solutions.

With decades of experience in desiccant packaging and moisture management, the company continues to expand its portfolio to include medical device capabilities and deepen its presence in the U.S. market, where it has been active since 1995.
