KENYA—Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, a leading paediatric hospital in East and Central Africa, has received re-accreditation by the Joint Commission International (JCI), a globally recognized organization that certifies health care organizations, for another three years.

This JCI re-accreditation was announced by the Kenya Healthcare Federation on their X social media account, congratulating Gertrude’s for this remarkable achievement, which also reflects positively on Kenya’s healthcare standards.

The accreditation is valid from April 27, 2024, through April 26, 2027, demonstrating the hospital’s commitment to quality healthcare and its continuous efforts to maintain high standards.

Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital first received its Gold Seal of Approval (JCI) accreditation on April 27, 2017.

This prestigious accreditation reflects their dedication to providing safe and effective patient care and compliance with the highest international hospital standards.

Notably, Gertrude’s is the first children’s hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa to receive Joint Commission International accreditation.

Commenting on this achievement, Robert Nyarango, CEO of Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, expressed pride in the reaccreditation by the Joint Commission International (JCI) for another three years, highlighting that all 18 of their medical facilities (branches) are JCI accredited.

 He emphasized that this accreditation confirms Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital meets international healthcare quality standards for patient care and organization management.

Nyarango also extended his gratitude to their dedicated team members for their individual and collective efforts in maintaining quality and safety in all aspects of patient care.

He also acknowledged the support from clients, partners, and all stakeholders in the delivery of quality healthcare to children and adolescents.

Nyarango reaffirmed the hospital’s ongoing commitment to a culture of quality and safety through continuous improvement, learning, and innovation.

Beyond the JCI Accreditation, Gertrude’s Hospital has been recognized with several other prestigious awards, including the Resuscitation Council (UK) accreditation, the Ethical Leadership and Business Mark of Ethics Award, Best in Innovation in East Africa 2014, Best in Health Sector Award 2017, Certificate of Recognition in Achieving Gold Mark 2017, and the FiRe Award among others.

Since its inception in 1947, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital has grown to become the most established paediatric hospital in Eastern and Central Africa.
