UAE – GK Investment Holding has expanded its joint venture (JV) partnership with Gruppo San Donato (GSD) to launch ‘Smart Clinics’ in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

GKSD is a joint venture between GK Investment Holding, founded and chaired by Kamel Ghribi, and Gruppo San Donato, the leading private hospital Group in Italy.

Through GKSD, GK Investment Holding and GSD will co-develop new healthcare projects in the UAE and the Middle East region, including university infrastructure and smart clinics.

The joint statement said: “Technology and precision healthcare are key components of the Smart Clinics program.”

The Smart Clinics initiative centres on combining cutting-edge medical technology with pinpoint medical care.

The strategic deal, valued at 125 million euros (nearly US$136 million), aims to improve life quality and establish wellness pathways in the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East region.

Leveraging GKDS’s capabilities in healthcare management and services, the partnership will pave the way for the development of precision medicine, aided by artificial intelligence, in the MENA region.

This strategic alliance follows the global predictions that precision medicine will be the new economy in the field of biotechnology.

GK Investment Holding and GSD will work closely to advance acute care treatment, medical education, and scientific research in the field of gene and cellular therapies.

Backed by sponsors of Italy’s Gruppo San Donato, GKSD intends to undertake the design and development of a state-of-the-art learning facility based at the American University in the Emirates.

Moreover, this new venture will support the awareness and development of modern healthcare in precision medicine, gene therapy, and gene editing.

The signing ceremony was presided over by Abdulla Al Saleh, the Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade, and Paolo Rotelli, Vice-President of Gruppo San Donato.

On his part, Mr. Paolo Rotelli, President of Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and Vice President of Gruppo San Donato said: “The development of precision medicine is supported by the advancement in gene therapy and editing as well as innovation in technology.”

He emphasized that the GK Investment Holding Gruppo San Donato expanded partnership will provide world-class healthcare infrastructure and expertise that aims to improve life quality by focusing on wellness pathways.

We are proud of our scientists and research team that has a number of ongoing research programs underway at our labs in Italy including regeneration of the brain. We are also working on artificial intelligence-supported diagnostic programs that lead to several benefits,” stated Mr. Rotelli.
