SAUDI ARABIA – Google Cloud and the Saudi Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances Corporation (SPIMACO) have joined forces to revolutionize the pharmaceutical industry with the latest technologies.

It marks one of the largest Systems Applications and Products (SAP) enterprise resource planning (ERP) workload migration projects in the pharmaceutical sector in Saudi Arabia.

As part of the company’s latest digital transformation drive, 11 key applications from SPIMACO’s on-premise SAP infrastructure will be migrated into the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) without disrupting business operations.

The company said in a statement that it chose to partner with Google Cloud to strongly position the business for future growth, accelerate digital transformation, and support regulatory requirements.

SPIMACO will migrate all 11 of its business systems to Google Cloud to enhance system performance and safeguard business continuity across the 13 countries where the company operates,” the Saudi firm announced.

This strategic alliance follows the launch of the pharmaceutical company’s five-year strategy to become the leader in the Saudi pharmaceutical industry.

The deal will pave the way for SPIMACO to contribute significantly to the improvement of patient care and well-being, in line with the ambitions of the Saudi Vision 2030.

According to the company’s statement, Cloudypedia, a Google Cloud infrastructure specialized partner, led the business systems migration project with SPIMACO.

Cloudypedia is specialized in providing cloud infrastructure services to build a green field of SAP environment or migrate existing SAP workloads from on-premises or other cloud providers to Google Cloud,” disclosed SPIMACO.

This news comes as SPIMACO’s information technology (IT) infrastructure was on-premise, which meant that the company’s digital backend required a refresh and a new, more robust disaster recovery system to be implemented.

In his address, Khaled Saleh Al Khattaf, Chief Executive Officer of SPIMACO, said: “We aspire to grow our footprint in the pharmaceutical sector by expanding into nine new markets. This requires us to have a solid digital infrastructure that will help us achieve our business goals.”

He asserted that the collaboration builds on Google Cloud’s reputation as one of the top-notch Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) providers in Saudi Arabia providing innovative solutions that support compliance with the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

Our partners at Google Cloud have gone beyond our expectations and invested in training our teams on the SAP migration project to ensure participants will be upskilled to the latest standards,” stated Al Khattaf.

The Chief Executive Officer of SPIMACO underscored that this training will equip employees with the necessary skills to lead the company into its next phase powered by technology.

Our collaboration with Google Cloud sets us up for success as we gear up internally with the right resources,” said Al Khattaf.
