Gulf Medical University opens new Thumbay Lab for AI in healthcare

This new lab represents a significant advancement for GMU, as it aims to enhance the university’s existing artificial intelligence programs by providing a modern, interactive space for learning and research.

UAE—The Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare at Gulf Medical University (GMU) in the UAE has officially opened its new state-of-the-art facility, the Thumbay Lab for AI in Healthcare.

 The inauguration ceremony took place in the main foyer of the university’s library and was attended by a distinguished group of guests, including faculty members, industry partners, and students.

The event was honored by the presence of H.E. Shri. Sunjay Sudhir, the Ambassador of India to the UAE, who served as the Chief Guest.

The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder President of the Thumbay Group.

This new lab represents a significant advancement for GMU, as it aims to enhance the university’s existing artificial intelligence programs by providing a modern, interactive space for learning and research.

Designed to support students, faculty, and healthcare professionals, the Thumbay Lab is equipped with the latest AI tools and technologies.

These resources allow users to explore practical applications of AI in various healthcare areas such as diagnostics, medical decision-making, patient care, and healthcare operations.

By offering hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology, the lab is expected to prepare learners for the evolving demands of AI-integrated healthcare environments.

This facility is a vital addition to the Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare, complementing its academic offerings.

These include a Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence and Health Informatics (MAIHI), as well as certificate courses in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and Generative AI (GenAI) in Healthcare.

All these programs are currently open for admission and are designed to equip professionals and technologists with the skills necessary to lead and innovate in the healthcare sector.

During the inauguration, Dr. Thumbay Moideen emphasized the lab’s role in integrating artificial intelligence into medical education and healthcare delivery.

He highlighted that the lab will act as a catalyst for innovation, supporting students and researchers in developing solutions that will shape the future of healthcare.

Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Acting Chancellor of GMU and Vice Chancellor for Academics, added that the lab will greatly enrich the academic experience by providing students with practical exposure to emerging technologies.

Furthermore, it will foster collaborative research and innovation, enabling real-world problem-solving in healthcare.

As part of its strategic vision, the Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare collaborates with over 15 leading industry partners.

These include health-tech innovators, AI solution providers, and academic institutions, all contributing to real-time learning and industry-relevant projects.
