INDIA – The Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), the technology business incubator of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), has joined forces with Boehringer Ingelheim to drive breakthrough innovations in health.
This news comes shortly after IIT Kanpur signed a partnership agreement with the Indian Bank to provide financial support to innovative start-ups. The collaboration will enable IIT Kanpur’s SIIC to extend critical support to emerging Indian start-ups
The signing agreement was presided over by Prof. Ankush Sharma, Professor-in-charge of Innovation and Incubation at IIT Kanpur, and Mr. Prabhat Sinha, Director of Government and Public Affairs at Boehringer Ingelheim India.
In a press release, IIT Kanpur stated: “The purpose of this collaboration is to extend support to nationally significant innovations developed at SIIC, IIT Kanpur, with a specific emphasis on healthcare solutions that leverage technology to make a positive impact on patients’ lives.”
IIT Kanpur’s SIIC and Boehringer Ingelheim will jointly develop socially impactful innovations that can drive transformational change in the healthcare industry.
The two parties will leverage their collective expertise and resources to nurture and promote innovative ideas that can bring about significant societal changes.
In the long term, the strategic deal will create a conducive environment for young innovators to turn their ideas into successful ventures.
The collaboration between SIIC, IIT Kanpur, and Boehringer Ingelheim India will pave the way to more effective interactions between academia and industry in driving innovation and creating positive social impact.
Moreover, the partnership will allow Boehringer Ingelheim to work closely with the Indian startup community in line with the company’s commitment to transforming lives with the help of innovation.
As a part of this strategic deal, Boehringer Ingelheim will provide support to Lenek Technologies, one of the startups incubated at SIIC, IIT Kanpur, to help reduce critical health challenges in India.
The IISc-incubated startup Lenek Technologies aims to eradicate Tuberculosis (TB) by improving the screening process through its innovative handheld X-ray device.
According to the official note, the portable x-ray device is a useful diagnostic tool with the potential to bring about a significant change in TB screening in areas where resources are limited.
“The partnership will enable Lenek technologies to expand its reach and continue to work toward eliminating tuberculosis and helping improve millions of lives,” noted IIT Kanpur.
Harnessing the synergies of their respective capabilities, the partnership aligns with their shared objective of supporting socially impactful start-ups that can transfer positive change to society.
The two organizations will provide a comprehensive support system to Indian start-ups allowing them to develop and scale their solutions to meet healthcare needs.
