INDIA –Bengaluru-based medical equipment manufacturer Dozee has signed an agreement with British International Investment (BII) to transform the public healthcare sector in India.
Through its initiative MillionICU, Dozee will collaborate with the United Kingdom’s development finance institution (DFI) to upgrade 6,000 hospital beds in approximately 140 public hospitals across India.
MillionICU initiative was established by Dozee in 2021 to install one million step-down of intensive care unit (ICU) beds across India.
It has already benefited 46 Indian hospitals across 15+ districts with more than 10,000+ patients being monitored and having saved 25,000+ nursing hours, according to Dozee.
“The goal of Dozee’s partnership with BII is to improve access to healthcare across India and alleviate the workload of healthcare workers, reduce nurse burnout and fatigue in hospital wards,” said the manufacturer in a press release.
According to Dozee, its public healthcare delivery system’s connected care model is supported by technological advancements such as AI-based early warning systems that have the potential to transform standard hospital beds into connected step-down ICU beds.
The Indian medical device maker informed that its pioneering contactless remote patient monitoring and Early Warning System (EWS) in India saves around 2.5 hours of nursing time per patient per day.
“Backed by BII’s capital, Dozee will upgrade regular beds to step-down ICUs through the MillionICU initiative and bring about a rapid, long-term transformation in India’s public healthcare infrastructure,” Dozee stated.
The manufacturer outlined that the partnership aims to improve hospital staffing and patient outcomes, achieve optimal nurse-to-patient ratio in the public healthcare setting as well as address the current acute shortage of ICU beds.
Commenting on the partnership for public health, Co-founder of Dozee Mudit Dandwate said: “By creating step-down ICUs in some of the low hospital density regions of the country, it is our mission to unburden the healthcare system and make quality healthcare accessible to all.”
He confirmed that Dozee enables healthcare workers to remotely monitor patients’ vital parameters such as heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation levels, temperature, and electrocardiogram (ECG) test.
Meanwhile, Dozee is set to release an ambulatory ECG patch to monitor patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Its easy-to-use ECG patch augments Dozee’s current AI-powered RPM system that will be instrumental in assisting Health Care Professionals (HCPs) in identifying early signs of cardiac deterioration.
“This ambulatory ECG patch monitors the electrical activity of your heart continuously over multiple days. It will help detect critical cardiac arrhythmias, so HCPs can manage critical situations with swift data-backed medical decision,” Dozee stated.
In addition, the ECG patch is small, flexible, light and convenient to use that will enable physicians to remotely get alerts and view the live and continuous ECG of the patient from anywhere as the system is cloud-enabled.
