IRAQ – The Ministry of Planning of Iraq is set to complete the stalled construction of three hospitals in different governorates across the country.

According to an official statement from Abdel-Zahra Al-Hindawi, a spokesperson for Iraq’s Ministry of Planning, the ministry has restarted work on several stalled hospital projects across the country.

The hospital projects are distributed between the Ministry of Health, Higher Education and Scientific Research (university hospitals), and the Region Development Programme,” outlined Al-Hindawi.

The Ministry of Planning has already resumed construction works on the 400-bed Muthanna Hospital in Muthanna Governorate, Iraq’s second-largest governorate.

Construction is already continuing on a new 200-bed Zubair Hospital located in the Al-Zubair District in the Basra Province.

Additionally, progress on the 200-bed Al-Hartha Hospital in Basra Governorate is well underway and it is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2023.

The soon-to-be-launched hospital, spread over a land area of 12 acres, has five buildings of four storeys each alongside a three-storey residential building for doctors.

Al-Haritha Hospital is being developed at a cost of approximately 45 billion Iraqi dinars (US$30.8 million) by the Ministry of Health of Iraq,” stated Spokesperson Al-Hindawi.

This accelerated progress comes after the Ministry of Planning resolved issues that were hindering the completion of the stalled hospital projects.

Abdel-Zahra Al-Hindawi noted that the ministry deputed follow-up teams to the project’s sites to understand the latest status, obstacles to completion, and the measures necessary to address these obstacles.

A committee constituted by Iraq’s Ministry of Planning and chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Planning Muhammad Ali Tamim recently discussed the steps taken to resume work on these hospital projects,” pointed out Al-Hindawi.

This above statement made by Abdel-Zahra Al-Hindawi on behalf of the Ministry of Planning was issued by Zawya Projects, an online B2B platform providing in-depth monitoring of significant construction projects in the Middle East & North Africa.

The statement released by Zawya Projects is part of its efforts to give professionals a competitive edge to effectively conduct business by providing relevant, valuable, and engaging online intelligence.

The Projects Monitor tracks over 2,700+ major projects in the Middle East covering the complete project life-cycle from planning, commissioning, execution, and completion.

To this end, Spokesperson Al-Hindawi told Zawya Projects that there are over 47 stalled hospital projects across various governorates with bed capacities ranging from 50 to 400.

The special committee, which was constituted by the Ministry of Planning and chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Planning Muhammad Ali Tamim, has pledged its commitment to accelerate progress on three of the several stalled hospital construction projects.
