INDIA – Japanese Omron Healthcare, a provider of medical equipment for health monitoring and therapy based in Kyoto, is all set to commence operations at its Chennai-based manufacturing plant before the end of March 2025.
The company plans to invest approximately 1.28 billion Indian rupees (US$15.7 million) in establishing a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Origins by Mahindra in Chennai, which boasts excellent connectivity to the CBD area of Chennai City.
In an official note, the Japanese medical equipment manufacturer said: “Omron will open its first medical device factory in the southern state. The facility will reportedly produce low-frequency pain therapy equipment and body composition monitors.”
The factory will focus on large-scale production of OMRON Healthcare blood pressure monitors within the company’s premises spread across 6.02 acres at Peruvoyal Village in Gummidipoondi Taluk.
With its inauguration targeted for March 2025, Omron Healthcare is projected to boost its manufacturing capabilities and capacity to cater to the domestic and regional markets.
The new medical device factory will be Omron Healthcare’s first blood pressure monitor manufacturing facility in India, expanding its global reach into emerging economies.
The company strives to strengthen the reach and availability of home blood pressure monitors across India as part of its ‘Going for ZERO’ campaign to eliminate heart attacks, strokes, hypertension, and other cardiovascular events.
Moreover, this plant is strategically positioned in the heart of an industrial cluster located on the Chennai-Bengaluru industrial corridor in Tamil Nadu, which houses over nine global companies.
The strategic move builds on Origins by Mahindra’s goal of becoming a preferred manufacturing destination, aligning with the flagship ‘Make in India’ initiative.
It is in line with the Tamil Nadu government’s mission of emerging as the largest medical device manufacturing state in India.
“Omron will play an important role in enhancing the medical infrastructure of Tamil Nadu by beginning to produce medical devices in the state,” M.K. Stalin, the current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, said in a statement.
What’s more, OMRON Healthcare is increasing its focus on digital health, including the OMRON Connect app, which is now available for download in 140 countries and syncs with every OMRON connected blood pressure monitor.
It is part of the company’s structural moves to cement its status as a global leader in the field of clinically proven, innovative medical equipment for health monitoring and therapy.
