The record-breaking mosaic covers an impressive 30 square meters and was created using over 20,000 purple ribbons, the recognized symbol for IBD awareness.
UAE—Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine—Gulf, with the support of the Emirates Gastroenterology & Hepatology Society, has set a Guinness World Record for the largest awareness ribbon mosaic to raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
This initiative coincided with World Inflammatory Bowel Disease Day and aimed to bring attention to the challenges faced by millions living with IBD worldwide.
The record-breaking mosaic covers an impressive 30 square meters and was created using over 20,000 purple ribbons, the recognized symbol for IBD awareness.
This striking visual serves as a powerful message of solidarity with patients and a beacon of hope for improved care and greater public understanding of the disease.
IBD is a chronic condition that causes inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract and primarily includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
These diseases can severely impact patients’ quality of life, causing symptoms such as abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, fatigue, and unintended weight loss.
Globally, IBD affects more than 10 million people, underscoring the urgent need for timely diagnosis and effective long-term management.
Dr. Sameer Alawadhi, President of the Emirates Gastroenterology & Hepatology Society, emphasized the critical role of awareness in managing IBD.
He stated that early diagnosis and intervention are essential to controlling this chronic illness and improving patient outcomes. He also highlighted that the record-setting mosaic reflects the healthcare community’s commitment to supporting those affected by IBD.
Pedro Matos Rosa, Managing Director of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, Gulf, added that IBD is not only physically debilitating but also imposes significant social and economic burdens.
He stressed that raising awareness, encouraging innovation, and advancing treatment options are key to alleviating these challenges and enhancing patients’ quality of life.
With over three decades of leadership in IBD research and treatment, Johnson & Johnson continues to invest in collaborations with healthcare professionals to improve understanding and management of the disease.
This Guinness World Record initiative reinforces the company’s dedication to bringing hope, awareness, and better health outcomes to the IBD community across the Gulf region.
By combining creativity with a strong message of support, this campaign not only celebrates a collective achievement but also strengthens ongoing efforts to improve lives affected by IBD, a condition that remains complex and often misunderstood.
