Jubilee expands health coverage with new card-less health insurance product in Tanzania

TANZANIA – Jubilee Health Insurance, the largest insurer in East Africa, has unveiled a new card-less product called Pamoja Afya in Tanzania with an aim to support government initiative on universal health coverage by promoting accessibility of health insurance in rural areas.

Beneficiaries under the card-less Pamoja Afya will be treated at government and mission hospitals to support the government agenda of universal health coverage while maintaining the best-practice governance standards and ensuring quality and wide access of services.

Jubilee Health is a wholly owned subsidiary of Jubilee Holdings Ltd. and has provided Medical Insurance for more than 85 years to individuals, Small and medium enterprises and the East African region’s blue-chip companies.

Jubilee Holdings is the only ISO certified insurance group listed on the three East Africa stock exchanges namely the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange and Uganda Securities Exchange.

Jubilee has a wide geographical coverage with an extensive network of hospitals thus the insured can enjoy direct access to treatment while travelling within East Africa.

It has more than 1 million customer relationships countrywide along with a workforce of 250 people, a network of over 4,000 hospitals, physicians, clinics, pharmacies and health and wellness specialists.

Jubilee’s new product in Tanzania will further push awareness of health insurance which in turn will increase penetration level in the country where the current insurance penetration level is less than 1.0 per cent as the offering is available to individual members, SACCOS and VICOBA.

The accessibility of the new health product is also in line with the for Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority target to ensure the implementation of insurance services reaches all Tanzanians, it aims for general insurance coverage to reach 80% of Tanzanians and 50% for health by 2028.

The Communications and Relations Manager for Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) Mr Eliezer Rweikiza explained that the insurer’s product may help to entice the society to start buying health insurance products hence pushing up penetration levels.

Meanwhile, Jubilee earlier revamped and refreshed its health solution dubbed J Biz to offer superior benefits including medical cover and life coverage to cater to owners of Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and their employees at an affordable price.

J Biz offers comprehensive coverage for pre-existing and chronic conditions, covers newly diagnosed chronic conditions under inpatient and outpatient, inbuilt Covid-19 coverage for inpatient treatment and outpatient testing for symptomatic cases and other benefits.
