KENYA – The Government of Kenya and the Kingdom of Thailand, a Southeast Asian country, have announced an expansion of their strategic medical partnership to improve quality and access to primary health care for Kenyans as well as to enhance cooperation in the health sector.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi said on its website that Chair of Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) Dr. Eva W. Njenga met with the Ambassador of Thailand to Kenya Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat to discuss way forward in promoting health collaboration between Thailand and Kenya.

The Government office in further said that the Kingdom of Thailand and Kenya have joined forces in three strategic healthcare areas while reassuring Thailand’s determination to provide Kenya with technical assistance.

Thailand and Kenya seek to collaborate in three strategic healthcare priorities including Thailand-Kenya Collaboration on Universal Health Coverage Project implemented by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), the prevention of tropical diseases, and the development of COVID-19 vaccines.

KMPDC Chairperson Dr Eva Njenga lauded the success of Thailand on the implementation of Universal Health Coverage while commending the Thai government for the support to concretize Universal Health Coverage as it is one of the Big 4 Agenda of the Kenyan government.

The Thai Ambassador underscored Thailand’s determination to provide Kenya with technical assistance, particularly, on 3 key areas, namely, Thailand-Kenya Collaboration on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Project implemented by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), the prevention of tropical diseases, and the development of COVID-19 vaccines.

The Chairperson of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board also expressed her readiness to further deepen the health collaboration with Thailand.

In addition, the Thai Ambassador Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat reiterated the potential of medical tourism of Thailand while noting that medical tourism is one of the key strengths of Thailand with the reliable and affordable healthcare.

Thai Embassy from Kenya provides mobile consular services to Seychelles

Meanwhile, Mr. Torsak Janpian, Minister Counsellor, Mr. Wisit Bunyaritthipong, Counsellor, and Mr. Jutha Saovabha, First Secretary, from the Royal Thai Embassy in Kenya travelled to Seychelles to provide mobile consular services including passport application, document legalization and consultation on consular matters.

The Embassy’s representatives also distributed medicines, masks, and COVID-19 ATK test kits in order for the Thai nationals in Seychelles to better look after their health and stay safe from COVID-19 while discussing various issues regarding details about legally living and working abroad.

The Thai Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya further said, “Seychelles is a small island country in the middle of the Indian Ocean. While its population is around a hundred thousand, there are almost 100 Thai nationals residing in Seychelles.”
