SAUDI ARABIA—King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) has successfully concluded its participation in the 2024 NYC C3 Summit Davos of Healthcare, reinforcing its reputation as a global leader in healthcare innovation and transformation.
As both a C3 Strategic Partner and Chair of the Scientific Committee, KFSHRC played a pivotal role in driving critical discussions on the future of healthcare.
The institution actively contributed to addressing some of the most critical global healthcare challenges, with presentations that covered a range of advanced topics such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and precision medicine.
One of the major highlights of the summit was the recognition of KFSHRC’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO), Dr. Björn Zoéga, who received the prestigious 2024 C3 Global Innovative Healthcare & Impact Transformation Award.
This award acknowledges Dr. Zoéga’s and KFSHRC’s continuous commitment to enhancing patient care through cutting-edge solutions, improving healthcare accessibility, and reducing costs.

Throughout the summit, KFSHRC’s top leaders, including Dr. Zoéga, Dr. Edward Cupler (Executive Director of Research and Innovation), Dr. Feras Khaliel (Head of Cardiac Surgery and Director of the Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery Program), and Dr. Salah Baz (Head of Genomic Medicine), led insightful sessions focused on the latest advancements in medical technologies.
Dr. Cupler provided updates on KFSHRC’s initiatives to position Saudi Arabia as a global biotechnology powerhouse, while Dr. Khaliel discussed the growing role of robotics in surgery.
Meanwhile, Dr. Baz’s presentation on whole genome sequencing (WGS) highlighted its potential to revolutionize the diagnosis of rare diseases and pave the way for more personalized healthcare.
In addition to this recognition, KFSHRC was also featured in the “World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2025” survey, published by Newsweek magazine.
The hospital’s inclusion in this list of 350 leading institutions from 28 countries worldwide reflects its excellence in utilizing AI, robotics, digital imaging, and telemedicine to deliver superior patient care.
The technologies KFSHRC employs have not only improved patient outcomes and experiences but have also optimized operational efficiency.
According to Newsweek, the hospitals on this list were selected based on nominations from an international survey of hospital managers and healthcare professionals, as well as results from the Smart Hospitals Maturity Survey (SSHMS), which evaluates the extent of digital technology integration in hospitals.
Furthermore, the accreditation of KFSHRC by the Joint Commission International (JCI), a global standard for healthcare quality, also contributed to this recognition.
