SAUDI ARABIA—In a crucial step towards expanding healthcare technology, King Fahd Medical City in Saudi Arabia has collaborated with Boston Oncology to localize gene and target cell therapy.

This collaboration was solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which marks a major step forward in enhancing the country’s medical treatment capabilities.

The MoU, signed by King Fahd Medical City Chief Executive Officer Dr. Fahad AlGhofaili and Boston Oncology Chief Executive Director Dr. Abdullah Bajaaj, outlines a project to be hosted at King Fahd Medical City.

This facility is crucial to the Riyadh Second Health Cluster, highlighting its strategic importance in the region’s healthcare infrastructure.

The Saudi Deputy Minister for Planning and Development, Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Rumaih, witnessed the signing ceremony at the Saudi Ministry of Health, underscoring the government’s support for this initiative.

Dr. AlGhofaili emphasized that the MoU aligns perfectly with King Fahd Medical City’s strategic plans, which are in line with the broader objectives of the Saudi Transformation Program in the Healthcare Sector.

He highlighted that the localization of advanced therapeutic technologies is pivotal to enhancing the quality of healthcare services in the Kingdom.

This initiative aims to bring cutting-edge treatment methods to Saudi Arabia and build local gene and target cell therapy expertise.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA), quoting Dr. AlGhofaili, reported that one of the primary goals of this partnership is the localization of therapeutic technology.

This objective is closely aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, which strongly emphasizes health transformation programs.

The vision seeks to diversify the economy and reduce dependency on oil by investing in various sectors, including healthcare.

Furthermore, Dr. AlGhofaili stated that Saudi Arabia aims to develop robust local capabilities in advanced medical treatments and technologies by fostering cooperation with both national and international institutions.

This collaboration with Boston Oncology is a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to enhancing its healthcare sector through strategic partnerships and technological innovation.
