KUWAIT— Kuwait’s Council of Ministers has directed the Ministry of Health, in partnership with relevant authorities, to prepare initial plans for Sabah Al-Ahmad Medical City and Al-Mutlaa Medical City.
These projects aim to meet international standards to provide advanced healthcare services.
The directive came during the Cabinet’s weekly session, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at Bayan Palace.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya reported that Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi provided a detailed visual briefing on these two medical city projects.
Central to Kuwait Vision 2035, these projects intend to ensure accessible healthcare across all governorates.
Each medical city will host a 500-bed hospital, dental clinics, outpatient centers, rehabilitation and dialysis units, staff housing, and medical warehouses.
Sabah Al-Ahmad Medical City will serve regions such as Sabah Al-Ahmad, Wafra, and Khairan, whereas Al-Mutlaa Medical City will cater to Al-Sabriya, Nawaf Al-Ahmad, and nearby neighbourhoods.
Dr. Al-Awadhi reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to improving healthcare quality and accessibility for Kuwait’s growing population.
The Prime Minister also updated the Cabinet on recent high-level meetings between His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and David Solomon, CEO of Goldman Sachs.
Discussions highlighted Kuwait’s efforts to expand its investment portfolio, boost entrepreneurship, and forge partnerships with international firms to transfer expertise, localize technology, attract quality investments, and empower youth under sustainable development.
Additionally, the Prime Minister met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, to explore enhancing cooperation.
They discussed addressing economic imbalances, implementing fiscal reforms, managing financial policy, and diversifying income sources.
Foreign Minister Al-Yahya briefed the Cabinet about the 29th GCC-EU joint ministerial meeting hosted by Kuwait.
The final communiqué stressed Iraq’s respect for Kuwait’s sovereignty and international agreements, including UN Security Council Resolution 833, border demarcation, and enforcement of the Khor Abdullah Agreement.
The Cabinet also discussed Kuwait hosting a regional security forum addressing maritime security, counterterrorism, cyber defense, and disarmament.
Education Minister Sayed Jalal Abdul Mohsen Al-Tabtabaei proposed adding Shuwaikh Secondary School to the National Register of Historic Buildings, underlining the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah presented a report from the Permanent Committee for Streamlining Business Environment, focusing on regulatory simplification and improving government coordination.
The upcoming “Tahseen” platform will monitor progress on Kuwait’s National Agenda.
The Cabinet approved two draft decrees: one introducing a digital system for minor criminal cases to ease court burdens, and another forming a Sharia-compliant committee to manage Zakat House’s investments, with both drafts awaiting the Amir’s ratification.
Furthermore, the Cabinet reviewed the Financial Controllers Authority’s 2024/2025 reports and tasked the Government Performance Follow-up Authority with implementing recommendations.
They extended congratulations to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the 52nd anniversary of the October 6th War victory, recognizing the shared military sacrifices between Kuwait and Egypt.
Finally, the Cabinet approved the Supreme Committee for Citizenship Investigation’s minutes on nationality withdrawal cases, and examined current Arab and international political developments, affirming Kuwait’s role in regional stability.
