Lebanese American University leads emergency relief missions for displaced communities

LEBANON—The Lebanese American University (LAU), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and its primary healthcare provider, the Beirut Association for Social Development (BASD), is driving a series of vital Emergency Relief Missions through its Mobile Clinics Program.

This initiative is focused on delivering essential healthcare services to displaced and vulnerable communities across Lebanon.

The missions are supported by expert teams from LAU, the LAU Medical Centers, Rizk Hospital, John’s Hospital, the Gilbert & Rose Mary School of Medicine, the Alice & Ramez School of Nursing, and the School of Pharmacy.

These teams include physicians, pharmacists, nurses, residents, faculty, and staff, all of whom volunteer their time and expertise to offer compassionate care to those in need.

Through these missions, the teams provide a range of services, including primary care, health screenings, essential medications, and more.

Since the launch of the LAU Mobile Clinics, a total of 178 missions have been successfully conducted across 360 towns and cities in Lebanon.

This has been a significant effort to reach communities in need, especially given Lebanon’s challenges.

Of these, nine missions were specifically focused on providing emergency relief to displaced individuals, serving thousands of patients, both adults and children, in 10 different locations.

The healthcare services provided during these missions are extensive and life-saving. They include pediatric screenings, obstetrics and gynecology exams, pediatric vaccinations, mental health support, nutrition awareness, and EKG screenings.

In addition to medical care, the missions collaborate with local health authorities and organizations to offer referrals for specialized treatments.

Beyond healthcare, the missions distribute hundreds of hygiene and first aid kits to families, helping them maintain basic hygiene and well-being during these difficult times.

These kits are designed to alleviate the daily challenges vulnerable families face and contribute to their overall health and safety.

The LAU Mobile Clinic Emergency Relief Missions are a crucial part of Lebanon’s response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, focusing on reaching displaced and underserved populations.

By mobilizing expert teams and essential medical resources, LAU is helping to ensure that vulnerable communities receive the care and support they need.

Through this initiative, LAU remains committed to addressing the health challenges faced by these populations, offering relief and compassion in their time of need.
