USA- Levita Magnetics has raised US$26M to advance disruptive Surgical Robotic Systems in a Series C financing.
The Menlo Park, California-based company that develops robotic surgery systems aims to support regulatory and near-term commercial efforts in the United States for its Magnetic-Assisted Robotic Surgery (MARS) platform.
MARS seeks to improve the volume of high-quality, effectively carried out treatments while boosting access by making robotic surgery accessible across the care spectrum and by enhancing the patient experience.
The funding was led by Ballast Capital, a healthcare growth equity and venture capital investment firm with participation from MedTex Ventures, Invermaster, and Carao Ventures, among other returning investors.
The corporation also disclosed Maria Sainz’s appointment to the position of chairwoman of its board of directors.
“The revolutionary strategy employing Levita’s core proprietary magnetic technology within a robotic platform has immense promise in transforming how surgery is carried out globally,” said Sainz.
She added that she is inspired by Levita’s inspiring goal and is looking forward to assisting the business as it embarks on its next stage.
We are happy to have the backing of this elite group of forward-thinking investors as we take the company to the next level with our unique approach to surgical robotics.
The MARS platform is intended to assist surgeons in doing more high-volume abdominal surgeries using fewer incisions and fewer people.
This portable tool eliminates the need for two incisions during surgery by using a magnet outside the belly of the patient to control a magnetic grasper within the body.
The new MARS platform helps with the external magnet and offers the surgeon better control and visibility.
However, the system still requires someone to hold the external magnet while the surgeon is performing. It is designed for outpatient or same-day discharge treatments and has a compact design.
Dr. Alberto Rodriguez-Navarro, a surgeon and the founder and CEO of Levita Magnetics, said, “We are happy to have the backing of this elite group of forward-thinking investors as we take the company to the next level with our unique approach to surgical robotics. ”
He added that everyone should be able to take advantage of MARS’ promise of reduced pain, accelerated healing, and less scarring.
