KENYA— M.P. Shah, one of East Africa’s leading specialities care private hospitals, has opened a new maternity wing at their 8-storey KPJ Medical Centre.
The new maternity wing will be fitted with the latest technology and professional staff to serve the city of Nairobi.
Located in Parklands Area in Nairobi, M.P. Shah Hospital is a modern 275-bed facility which is home to highly skilled and experienced specialists and professional medical staff.
For generations, they have been ranked among the best private hospitals in Kenya because of their excellent standards of care, more so maternity and child health care.
M.P. Shah notes that it operates under the umbrella of the Social Service League, which is a non-racial, non-religious, non-political charitable institution.
Furthermore, the scope of the social service league includes the main hospital in Parklands, the Village Market Medical Clinic, and the Dinshaw Byramjee Dispensary and Dental Unit located in Nairobi downtown, at Ronald Ngala Street.
The new maternity wing occupies both the 3rd and 4th floor of the new KPJ medical centre and the new expansion makes it one of the hospital’s most important departments.
The new KPJ Medical Centre was only launched in 2022 and was aimed to help increase the hospital’s ability to further improve its standards of care.
The new medical centre and subsequent maternity wing are all part of the hospital’s strategic plan to transform health care over the next decade in the region.
The launch of the KPJ Medical Centre serves to curb the increasing demand for healthcare services by introducing a dedicated maternity unit and a theatre for the same as well as a 100% increase in the current maternity bed capacity.
The new centre also hosts a modern physiotherapy centre that is set to be a hub for sports medicine, neurology, and other speciality clinics.
Dr. Toseef Din, CEO of the M.P. Shah Hospital noted during the centre’s launch, “Our region is changing. A growing, ageing population and an increased incidence of chronic disease are among our greatest challenges.”
Dr. Din added that at the core of M.P. Shah’s operations was their commitment to meet these and other challenges by supporting the ‘right workforce’ with the ‘right processes’ and the ‘right resources to provide the best healthcare for patients and their families.
Dr. Din proffered that the project would bring tremendous benefit to their patients, their hardworking, dedicated staff, and the communities they served.
The construction of the centre began in November 2016, with its primary aim being to cater to the rehabilitation, oncology, surgical and medical needs of patients.
A part of the tower has also hosted COVID-19 patients, who have been treated and repatriated in excellent health, supported by a team of doctors and nurses.
The KPJ medical centre is also home to a dedicated one-of-a-kind paediatric cancer centre.
This Cancer Centre is set to be among the largest in the country providing complex children’s cancer care.
The centre will also be actively participating in the research and treatment of childhood cancer, aiming for the highest standards in diagnosis, research, treatment, and support.
Maternal health care at the M.P. Shah
M.P. Shah’s maternal care division indicates that providing care right from the time you consider getting pregnant-a pregnancy assessment is vital to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
The hospital notes that a gynaecologist/obstetrician of your choice will assess your pregnancy and offer routine antenatal check-ups to optimize your health and that of the baby.
Additionally, they perform several tests including blood pressure, abdominal examination, urine test, antenatal blood test, ultrasound, and foetal heart rate along with dietary and lifestyle advice to make sure you have the healthiest pregnancy possible.
The hospital is also keen to provide tests to check for screening the baby for genetic disorders.
Moreover, the frequency of these checks varies according to your circumstances and is usually determined by your doctor.
After delivery, the hospital reports that its new maternity wing will provide postnatal care which also includes contraceptive/family planning advice and procedures.
