UAE—M42, a leading global healthcare organization formed through the merger of Mubadala Health and G42 Healthcare, has partnered with Bahrain’s Royal Medical Services (RMS) to enhance healthcare accessibility and quality across borders.
This strategic alliance aligns with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi’s (DoH) ongoing efforts to establish the Emirate as a regional healthcare hub and a leader in organ donation and transplantation.
The partnership marks a significant step toward improving healthcare in the region, enabling advanced medical care and knowledge-sharing between the UAE and Bahrain.
As part of the agreement, M42 has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RMS to provide specialized heart and lung transplant surgeries for patients in Bahrain.
This initiative is a key component of the National Program for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation, known as “Hayat,” highlighting Abu Dhabi’s expertise in organ transplantation, backed by cutting-edge infrastructure and highly skilled medical professionals.
The MoU was formally signed at the Arab Health Exhibition and Conferences by His Excellency Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of Royal Medical Services, and Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, M42’s Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a member of the M42 group, will play a central role in this collaboration by providing specialized transplant services.
The hospital’s multi-organ transplant center offers state-of-the-art procedures and multidisciplinary care to patients across the region.
As the UAE’s first and only multi-organ transplant facility, it has successfully conducted over 774 transplants since 2017, with 241 performed in 2024 alone.
Additionally, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has recognized Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi as a Centre of Excellence for Adult Cardiac Surgery.
By combining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s expertise in heart and lung transplants with RMS’s extensive resources, patients in Bahrain will gain access to comprehensive care, from pre-operative assessments to post-operative follow-ups.
This collaboration is expected to significantly improve healthcare outcomes and accessibility for patients in both countries.
Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa emphasized that this partnership represents a strong synergy between Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, working together to advance healthcare services for their communities.
He expressed his pride in forming this alliance with M42, underscoring their shared commitment to medical excellence and innovation.
Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, M42’s Managing Director and Group CEO, highlighted the importance of strategic collaborations in transforming global healthcare.
He noted that through this partnership, M42 and RMS aim to deliver life-saving transplant procedures and personalized care, setting a new standard for healthcare delivery in the region.
Beyond transplant services, this partnership will foster medical education and research.
Over the coming years, the collaboration will introduce high-level training programs for clinical staff, advanced laboratory diagnostics including genomics, joint research initiatives, and the deployment of new healthcare technologies.
These efforts will further enhance education, service delivery, and healthcare equity across the region.
